how much does one binge count?

Over the weekend I went crazy...I just lost 5 pounds by sticking to my diet but this weekend it was like i was over come by an eating frenzy. I ate horribly and way too much all weekend. I want to get back to my diet this week but I'm discouraged. how much will my weekend binge count?

Only you can say how much it will count. Nothing you can do about it now, don't feel like your entire diet is blown however, just get back on that horse and do the right things.

We've all done this - so I personally know the answer well....which is that in won't matter if you eat well this week, get yourself back on track, and let yourself off the hook. :) I remember one time, I ate a whole package of cookie dough, a pizza, and 1/2 a container of oreos....and that was just one sitting of many that weekend.... but the crazy thing was it didn't end up having the kind of dent I would've thought it would. It happens. The most important thing is to:
1) Know it happens -- unavoidable, even, over the course of getting healthy, for those of us without perfect and natural eating discipline
2) Chalk it up to "that's what I needed yesterday....but I don't need it today"

A pound is 3600 calories. That means, to gain a pound that you've lost, a true pound (not water weight, which should come off if you drink lots of water and get the sodium out of your system that was probably jammed into the junk food you ate!), you'd have to eat 3600 calories more than you would normally eat!

For example, a package of Oreos is 51 cookies. Oreos each have 50 calories. A package of Oreos thus has 2,550 calories - meaning that if you eat what you normally eat, plus a whole package of Oreos, you'll gain about 2/3 of a pound.

A large hand-tossed Pepperoni Pizza from Pizza Hut has 230 calories per slice. So, 8 slices would be 1,840 calories, about half a pound.

In one weekend, it is very unlikely that you gained back all the weight that you lost, though it may seem that way because you may be retaining a ton of water if you snacked on high-sodium foods. Drink a ton of water and get to the gym to burn some off ASAP; don't let the bingeing continue, or you'll just have more to burn. If you stop right now and do some emergency recon, you should be fine! Don't punish yourself too hard, though, or it may lead to a relapse. Hopefully, this helped put damage into perspective.
