The typical story as many here, 56 years. Recently found a notebook that I had in college (1972) that I used to record what I ate in order to try to lose 10 pounds. Have I honestly been dieting for 40 years? That's ridiculous. Well I didn't diet when I was pregnant, twice-- two girls-- permanent 10 pound gain each time. Like I said, pretty typical.

I am 52 years old, happily married for 27 years, one cat and 2 dogs. After 20 years in the corporate trenches I opened my own pet sitting business.

I am 64 turning 65 in a May and retired (altho I still teach 3 mornings/week). I was vegetarian for 12 or so years before going vegan 2 1/2 years ago. I have read just about every book out there on plant-based eating and they were all motivational for me, well, maybe except for "Veganist" by Kathy Freston. Didn't agree with that one. My first book was China Study and then I mowed through all the others. Just can't read enough about it. It keeps be motivated to go the "whole foods" route.

I am a divorced mom of a 20 year old daughter who lives far away in California and a 15 year old son who is with me most of the time. I have been moderately overweight my whole life. I weigh about 199 right now. I had stabilized at about 175 for several years, but then when I got divorced, I stopped exercising. I suppose I ate a little more comfort food too. In the last 8 years or so, I learned to listen to my body much better as far as hunger signals go, but I still give in to emotional eating, particularly when I'm tired. I have been a poor example for my son lately, being lazy with food preparation and "rewarding" both of us with unhealthy foods. And since moving my mother near me 18 months ago, I'm acutely aware of what my future holds if I don't take charge of my health. I also have a boyfriend who has multiple sclerosis, and I'm very interested in the possible relationship between food intolerance and autoimmune diseases. So.....for me and my guys, I'm ready to make some changes.
