I am a 44 year old mother of 3--- two boys and one girl (20, 18, 17 respectively). I have been married for 23 years--was a stay at home mom until the baby was 10, now I work full time. I consider myself a late bloomer. I was a outgoing child until my family moved from the suburbs of Detroit to the small town of St. Clair when i was 8, this is where I became painfully shy and sullen. I ate to satisfy my loneliness and before long became a very chubby pre-teen/teen which was painful due to the teasing I endured from the kids since first of all I was "the new girl" in a small snobby town and I was chubby so the double wammy just sent me into a tail spin of insecurities that I am still working on. I have difficulties making and keeping friends most of the time but I am really trying to reach out. I have a ton of fun when I am out with family/friends but I just can't seem to maintain relationships and I am very paranoid about whether people really, truly like me or of they are just being nice--probably stems from the years of rejection from the kids in school. I have always had a mind toward fitness, I still have a Richard Simmons album from the 80's! but I have never really committed to a regular fitness plan. I am an emotional eater for sure. When i am sad, pissed off, scared--whatever--the first thing i do (which I am trying to stop) is run to the kitchen. I am a geek sort-of. I love comptuers. I am a curious person by nature (my husband calls it nosy) and i am constantly looking for new ways to do things. I think this is part of the problem with me sticking to one single exercise regimen, I am always looking for new exercises, new treadmill workouts etc..

I'm 34, married, with a 3 1/2 yo son. I've had Type 1 diabetes since 1986, and never really took it seriously. Now, I'm trying to change that - get fit, get healthier... basically get serious about my health & life. Including trying to quit smoking.
