I have been logging on PEERtrainer for almost a year now, and it’s amazing what I’ve accomplished. With the help of PEERtrainer, I’ve lost 32 pounds (36 lbs total) and I look and feel like a completely different person. PEERtrainer gave me the accountability I need to stay on track throughout my weight-loss journey. I’ve been logging in almost every day since I started and it has really helped me stay accountable and on track.

I’ve always been a thin person, but in the past 3 years, the weight has crept up, and I didn’t even notice or understand why. At the urge of my family members, I finally tried losing weight, but when I saw no results and got tired of exercising everyday, I quickly gave up and went back to my old routine. One day I saw an ad for PEERtrainer and I thought I’d give it a try, with no expectations. Little did I know then that it would change my whole life. When I started PEERtrainer at 143 lbs, I set my goal to get to 120 (or look as if I do), but really, in my mind, I thought it would be incredible if I even get into the 130’s. Since then, I reached my goal of 120, revised my goal to 115, reached that, and now I have 1 pound left to get to my ultimate goal of 110.

When I first started logging, my log looked bad, but I continued to log and that was key for me. I slowly started analyzing my logs and recognizing the pattern of overeating. I started counting calories to help me lose weight and not overeat. I’ve always stayed active through dancing, but I also started doing exercise DVDs (Project You, Turbo Jam) to fill in that workout space in my PEERtrainer log. Through little tips and tricks I’ve learned from group members, I started changing the way I eat and think about weight loss. I’ve incorporated new foods into my diet that I’ve read about in group members’ logs. After seeing a group member set rewards when they reach a certain weight goal, I thought it was a great idea and started to do the same to help me stay motivated. My downfall is dining out in restaurants, free food, and wanting to sample everything if a variety of things are offered. I started using little tricks I’ve learned from group members to get myself through these problems. I started boxing half of my food right away at restaurants to help me from overeating when dining out. I started telling myself to pick only one or 2 favorite things when many varieties are offered to me, and questioning myself if I will really love what I will eat when I’m offered free food or a variety of items. (If you don’t love it, don’t eat it.) When I got the idea from a group member’s log, I started (occasionally) using the “3-bite rule” for desserts, and having only 3 bites of something really rich to save on calories but still get the taste.

With peertrainer, even if I log that I ate something “bad”, but force myself to keep logging, I recognize the pattern and I’m able to stop it. I think twice about eating something if I know I’ll have to report it back to my peertrainer groupmates. In addition, I’ve gotten great advice, read great articles posted by group members, gotten recipes and really have gotten the support system that I don’t have anywhere else. Recently I went on vacation and (inspired by another group member who did this) I logged into PEERtrainer everyday. I managed to lose instead of gain weight for the first time in my life on vacation. The beauty of PEERtrainer is it doesn’t matter what diet plan /exercise program your groupmates are using, we are all working toward a common goal, and it works because so many different people can offer lots of different perspectives to achieve those goals and help you stay accountable. Thank you PEERtrainer for creating such a wonderful site!
