There are about 120 calories per 1 tablespoon serving of extra virgin olive oil.

While olive oil is high in calories, it is a core part of the Mediterranean Diet, which has proven health benefits.

Olive oil is a natural juice which preserves the taste, aroma, vitamins and properties of the olive fruit.

Olive oil is the only vegetable oil that can be consumed as it is - freshly pressed from the fruit.

This is a critically important point, because the more processed a vegetable oil is, the harder it is for the body to process.

The beneficial health effects of olive oil are due to both its high content of monounsaturated fatty acids and its high content of antioxidative substances.

Studies have shown that olive oil helps prevent  heart disease by controlling ("bad") cholesterol levels while raising (the "good" cholesterol) levels.

Olive oil is well tolerated by the stomach. In fact, one of olive oil's main protective functions is on ulcers and gastritis.

Does Olive Oil Help With Weight Loss?

This can be a tricky question. If you are consuming regular vegetable oil (like canola oil for example) and you switch to olive oil, this will be a net plus for your health, no question.

But if you have a lot of weight to lose, it is important to keep in mind that the calories in any oil, including olive oil, can add up pretty quickly.

As you lose weight, start to have more energy and get your body in balance, you will start to use olive oil as a fuel.

This soup recipe is an ideal tool to help you get more energy and start to lose weight. It features a little olive oil, but the overall recipe is relatively low in calories. In fact, one needs fat when they consume vegetables to help the body absorb the nutrients.


Olive Oil and Heart Disease

Studies have shown that olive oil is good for heart health. Just a tip: do not heat the oil directly over heat. Coat your food in it first before adding it to the pan or else it loses most of its nutritional value. I learned that from Dr. Oz on Oprah:)
