Curbing Social Eating?

No matter what the main agenda for the evening is, at least part of the time my friends and I will be stuffing our faces. Since my resolution to shed a little chunk, I've found this aspect of our relationship to be chunky, or so to speak.
The only encouragement I find from my buddies is to, "Relax, and throw away the diet for today..."

Any tips on how to choke back the peer pressure instead of the fatty, empty-cal food?

Don't show up hungry.
Exercise at some point beforehand so you're in a "healthy" frame of mind.
Make a plan to either eat OR drink and not both - works best if you choose to eat since drinking tends to make you throw away the self-imposed prohibition.
Try to show up after the face-stuffing part of the occasion if possible.

All great ideas from the pp. Ultimately, it's a mindset. Once you make the decision that 'this is it' it will be much easier to follow through. You just have to decide - Do I want to be overweight (and cave into my friends pressuring me to stuff my face) or do I want to lose weight (or whatever your ultimate goal is.) Take the lead - who knows maybe your friends will follow. If they keep pressuring you just kindly turn the tables and ask, 'Why are you trying to sabotage my efforts?"

I have this same problem too. I think what I have decided is that its important to plan out your day and decide exactly how much you will eat before you go out with your friends. If I cut back during the day and excercise a little bit more I can have a few glasses of wine or an unhealthy snack when I am out. Just make sure you make a plan and you stick to it. IT's very empowering to know that you can make your mind up to do something and keep to it.
