The Dermatologist

Is it just a waste of money? Nothing has worked for my acne, not even proactive and a lot of people say the derm. just gives you something that dries out your skin horribly and makes it peel. I want to make my skin healthy and supple, not dry and peeling!

I've been there and it sucks! First, let me say I hated proactive. It doesn't work for everyone. I use the Cindy Crawford line and that has helped with acne and lines and wrinkles, triple bonus! But I also found that I had food allergies and that's what was making me break out. I break out from gluten.

Before you head to the dermo (which I agree is a waste of money), try eliminating one food at at time to see if that helps.

Another idea is birth control pills, particularly YAZ. Keeps the skin clear, the hormones level, and I found it gave me great energy.

Good luck to you!

No dermatologist has ever helped me like changing my diet has. Chocolate, cokes really do give ypou bad skin start eating fresh fruit and vegetables for a week and come back and tell me if you see a difference. They also say....if the eyes are the mirror of the soul, the face is the mirror of the mind. Your demons are erupting on your face. Find out what is bothering you.

GO TO THE DERM

I started getting really bad adult acne, i tried to fight it for one year, finally i had enough. WIthin 3 weeks my skin was PERFECT. I was given an oral antibiotic, i think called minocycline - it was amazing. I see so many people try to fight it on their own - just no reason for it.

i agree with changing your diet first, eliminate processed foods and drink lots of water. at first you will break out more because your body is detoxing and getting rid of the waste. about a week or so later you should have much better skin.

in addition to eating well, i have really good luck with using clinique 7 day scrub everyday prior to washing with clinique mild facial soap gel. on really bad days i use clearasil after that, but it does dry my skin... i only need that for the occasional hormonal breakout.

good luck!

Thanks for all the comments! I only eat chocolate a couple times a week and my diet is mostly good besides that. I drink atleast three bottles of water a day, which has helped. A lot of things have HELPED the acne but it's just too stubborn to go away completely! I'm switching to YAZ after I finish this last pack of birth cntrol. Should I tell the derm. that i'm doing this?

Let your doctor know about ANY medication you are taking.

There are different kinds of acne. The more stubborn, cystic acne can be helped by medications like Accutane, though it has some serious side effects.
