Boca Burgers?

Has anyone here tried Boca Burgers? I'm contimplating trying them, but not sure. Are they edible? or just an awful tasteless meat substitute?

I've had the Boca Burgers and I really liked them. I didn't enjoy their "ground meat" substitute but the burgers are great.

Thanks guys. I didn't realize Boca offered so much variety. I just visited their website. They even have chili...mmm.
Has anyone tried any of their other products?
I will definately be trying the bruger and the chick'n burgers.

Garden Burgers are also really good. I like them better than the Boccas.

I really only lke Boca's on bread w/ cheese and condiments so you can't really taste it. I find Morningstar Farms and Gardernburgers to taste better by themselves.

Being vegetarian for many years, I've got a lot of experience in this area.

Boca is good, if not a bit plain. Best cooked on the stove. Their flavored burgers (roasted garlic) are strong.

Trader Joe's carries several great options. Burger Nouveau is similar to Boca. Dr. Preager California Burger is awesome (more of a black bean + veggie burger). The meatless meatballs there are very, very tasty plain or in a sauce. They carry a veggie "sausage" patty which I love.

Boca also makes a "crumble" too - a vegetarian ground beef for chili, sloppy joes or tacos.

I think the "cold cuts" like fake turkey are just okay, and Tofu Pups (hot dogs) are okay once in a while.

Gardenburger, Boca and Morningstar are all fairly trustworthy. Experiment and see what you like! Good luck.

I tend to like the Gardenburgers and Morningstar products over Boca. I really like the black bean burgers they have - topped with some salsa, it's amazing!

I recently tried Boca burgers and I liked them but I have to say I am a diehard MorningStar Farms fan. I eat almost every product in their line. I have never been a breakfast eater so discovering their breakfast "sausage" patties was one of the best things for me.

I like the Boca cheese burgers better than the plain burgers. You can add a slice of cheese to the plain ones if you want. I also like the crumbled burger for making chili. I put a lot of beans in my chili so it just adds to it. Doesnt' necessarily taste like anything in it. I also make mine spicy. Just gives some added protein. The chik'n patties are a bit spicy too. My young daughter won't eat them. I also get the sausage breakfast links and they're pretty good too.

I Love the taste of morningstar sausage patties but they're loaded with chemicals so I try to stay away from them most of the time. They are so good though.

Thanks everyone for your great input. I'm just curious about the Morningstar brand. I think I've seen the adds in SHAPE, but I don't think I've ever seen it here (I'm in Canada). Where do you normally buy it??

Of the Boca products, I only like the bean burgers.
Nobody has mentioned this, but I really love the Quorn "chicken" patties and "hamburgers."

Boca Burgers??

I'll chime in on the Boca Chili (wonderful, and fairly filling). The lasagna is also good, and I love their breakfast sausage. They also have Italian sausage and brats, which just don't compare with the real thing. Not bad, just not real.

The Morningstar Farms black bean burgers are really good. Try it on a whole wheat bun, with tomato, slice of provolone cheese, red onion, and mustard.

boca burgers

I used to be a vegetarian and I loved boca burgers since i'm a college student I dont really get to eat them much now cause they are kinda expensive for me and my budget but I really recommend you give them a try. They are not bad at all. I suggest the ones that are cheeseburgers and add some sliced mushrooms to it and it will be awesome.

I actually really love Boca burgers, to me they are the best burger substitute I've had but it's really just personal taste. I like all of the varieties, the crumbles, everything. Just try a bunch of things and see what you like! I also love Yves veggie dogs; best when boiled and then pan fried with some onion slices and just a touch of oil. Mmm.

if you're vegan, remember to read ingredients!

A lot of the veggie burgers have cheese in them. I love the Boca Burgers (vegan variety, of course). I never really liked hamburgers, and to me, they taste much better!

I think most vegans know to read ingredients =) (because we are a very crazy group!) I really enjoy the Amy's brand food because they say right after the ingredients whether the product is vegan or not. I like to make my own bean burgers (cheaper than buying them). From 3 cans of beans I can make a batch of about 8 burgers for less than 2.5 bucks -- and after cooking them I can freeze and use as I please.

great

I buy a box of boca burgers at Sams Club once a month. I mostly eat them for breakfast. They are a great meat substitute-remember, it shouldn't taste exactly like a hamburger cause the nutrition make-up of it is completely opposite. IT goes good with all condiments, if you want it a little 'meatier', lightly spray w/olive oil & saute in pan. I think these are only 1 point each on Weight Watchers cause of the fiber so they are worth trying out!!!!!!!

I love Quorn chicken patties- they're really delicious with some honey mustard, cheese, red onion, sprouts and baby spinach on a bun or roll, or you can just eat them straight as part of a meal...

don't forget to try some of morning star's "healthy? junk food" - mini or regular corn dogs and the chik-n nuggets. i have to agree the chik patties are great. the nuggets and patties also come "spicy"!

boca burgers are good though. i have even made a breakfast sandwich with them. just cook the egg and boca patty in a skillet, toast some ww bread and put a slice of cheese in there if you'd like. yummy!

have fun!

OP again

wow lots of great suggestions thanks.
Btw, the link to the gravy doesn't seem to be working - I'd love to see it if you could just post the address.
I still haven't tried the Boca burgers although I did find a President's choice version (that's superstore/dominion/loblaws in canada) - that's pretty good. I'm sure I've seen Boca here before, but wasn't able to find any. I'll look again the weekend.
Just a note to all the MorningStar fans, I was trying to find out if they are available in Canada, but apparently they aren't anymore because they were using genetically modified vegetables. I coulnd't find a lot of information on it, so I'm not sure what the real story is. But, if this is a concern to you, you might want to research it a bit further. I'd be interested if anyone knows anything about it.

Boca Burgers/ Who Owns Who???

Are you aware that Boca Burger is a product of Kraft Foods. Do you know that Kraft is owned by Phillip Morris. Morningstar is a great company. They were created by the Kellog Company. Dr. Kellog was one the first to promote a vegetarian diet. They are also one of the better companies to work for. I also ear Garden Burger. A good reason is they are a small locally owned company.
Do you put your Money where your mouth is? Both Kraft and Nabisco are owned by Philip Morris. They know their days in the US are numbered. That's why they purchaced food companies on with deaths of millions of people.
THINK ABOUT IT. LETS DO THE RIGHT THING.

BOCA ROCK!

I just had the original last night, on a bed of spinach w/tomato and soy pepper jack cheese. Only like 2 ww points and delicious. I do not care for the Garden Burgers. I do not like the texture. I throw the Boca on the grill.

Morningstar breakfast patties, chicken patties and buffalo chicken nuggets are scarfed down by my kids. They are really good and Trader Joe's usually has them for like, 1.50 less per box, than the other grocery stores.

My favorite is Boca Burger Flamed Grilled burger. It has sort of a smoke grilled flavor. Don't care nearly as much for Morning star. I do however like Morning Star ground "meat" crumbles. I dump a handful in soup or veggie stew. The texture is amazingly meat-like.

Are there bad chemicals in these? The Boca or the Morningstar. I love both but never really considered the chemicals that made them up. I figured it was still a step in the right direction.
Does anyone have a good recipe for making these from scratch at home? I've looked it up but can't find it. Any help would be great! Thanks!

here's an awesome recipe for chickpea burgers. i was always a gardenburger girl...but i will never go back to anything other than homemade veggie burgers (i'll try to remember this from memory, but i might forget something - the recipe is from Mark BIttman's book How to Cook Everything Vegetarian - many awesome, easy veggie burger recipes).

14oz can chickpeas
1 egg
1/2 cup rolled oats (not instant)
1 onion quartered
salt/pepper
tsp cumin (you can probably really add any spice combo you like here)
a little veggie broth or white wine

just throw everything in a food processor and pulse until chunky - add a little liquid if it is too dry. if you have time, let it sit in the fridge for a bit (just makes it easier to shape). then shape into patties and grill. yum!

1:56 - thanks for that recipe. I will still eat an occasional Boca Burger or Morningstar Farms chik patti when I'm in a pinch, but it's hard to do anymore looking at that long list of ingredients - half of which I couldn't tell you what it was. I'd be more than happy to make my own. :)

Thanks for the recipe. I usually eat one or two of these products a day but would love to not be eating those chemicals that are in them. Still, better for me than eating animals.
I will definitely try those recipes.
THANKS!
