I like EAS Advantedge. They are almost all protein and very low carb at only 110 cals each. As a semi-vegetarian I have about 4 a week to suppliment my protein intake. If you are looking for a pre-workout drink with more carbs I also use their Myoplex lite sometimes.

Agreed Slimfasts are filling and very tasty. Milk chocolate and chocolate royale are heavenly, tastes like a milkshake (I love chocolate) and is only 110 calories I think.

slim ?

Not so fast on the slim fast there....

EAS Protein shake - Calories 180
Total Fat 3g
Total Carbohydrate 3g
Protein 15g

Slim fast shake - Calories 180
Total Fat 5g
Total Carbohydrate 26g
Protein 10g

why have more crappy carbs instead of more good dairy protein?
And my brand of Protein shake has almost no carbs and fat and 23 grams of protein - get your carbs from somewhere else kids

That above post can't be right -
a gram of protein has 4 cals, a gram of carbs has 4 cals, and a gram of fat has 9 cals.

If the counts for fat, carbs and protein are correct, then EAS has only 99 cals. I wonder if, really, there are 2 servings per can, to get up to the 180 cals??

EAS -
fat - 3g = 27 cals
carbs - 3g = 12 cals
protein - 15g = 60 cals
total - 99 cals

Slim Fast -
fat - 5g = 45 cals
carbs - 26g = 104 cals
protein - 10g = 40 cals
total - 189 cals.

At least, the Slim Fast may be correct. It's within a margin of error for rounding numbers.

diet ?

okay - #'s are from dailyplate so I figured they were okay, but I don't know

But it doesn't really matter - if you are trying to lose fat / gain muscle weight your better off getting a real protein shake like athletes use, not slim fast,

look - why do you want milk carbs, sugar and fructose in a "diet" drink ??
Go to a GNC or whatever and look at the jugs of protein shakes - it is basically just the best fast digesting high amino acid protein extracted from milk...if you really want some carbs, down some whole wheat crackers and some carrot sticks.

Protein shakes and weight loss shakes are two different things - do NOT confuse the two or you will gain. Never buy what they're selling at the gym smoothie bar, they're geared toward muscle-building and men who think they should eat 400 calories every 2 hours.

If you're iffy, just look at the calorie content for the weight loss shakes and protein shakes. Usually they will be very similar, but weight loss shakes are meant to be substituted for a meal, while body building shakes are meant as a supplement to a diet.

the lingo for bodybuilers is protein shake (90% protein) vs. MRP (meal replacement) (protein with carbs and fat)

what exactly is a weight loss shake - like an MRP right?'These are not usually the best idea for weight loss, but only a emergency crutch or a way to bulk up with an extra meal.

MRP's can be for weightloss. I am on the BFL and utilize these to "replace" a meal sometimes, while maintaining my calorie intake for the day and keeping my metablism going. They tend to be on the "protein" side of things but are still a balance of protien/carbs.

I drink Muscle Milk Light Ready to drink : Lean Muscle Formula. It will not make you gain if you work out. It also tastes really good. It works for me.

Taken from website :

A mainstay of effective and convenient nutritional programs for serious athletes, Muscle Milk® is an “evolutionary” muscle formula that promotes efficient fat burning, lean muscle growth and fast recovery from exercise. Designed after human mother’s milk, Muscle Milk® is the perfect and complete protein supplement for your nutritional needs. Lean Lipids™ promote lean muscle growth and ,b>enhance the retention of minerals needed for muscle contraction. The calories are more likely to be burned for muscle energy than stored as fat. There are no empty calories in Muscle Milk®.

Sometimes Ill use my what my brother uses, he is a personal Trainer. He uses Dymatize elite whey protein. The Chocolate Mint taste like Mint Girl Scout cookies... Its also slightly cheaper than the Gold Standard Whey protein.

Just try a few and see which one works for you and what your taste buds like.
