TV watching trick ...

I am one of those people who often seems to fall victim to all the food commercials on TV at night. I recently bought a show I wanted to watch on DVD and have decided that this IS THE ONLY way to watch TV shows!!!! No more trying to catch it when it's on or missing things when the phone rings ... and best of all NO FREAKIN' commercials!!! I suddenly realized, half way through the season that I hadn't even THOUGHT about food while watching it!!! anyway, I just thought I would share ...

I love TV. I don't get cable but do get netflix. This way I am
1. saving money
2. able to continuously watch episodes of shows I do like w/o interruptions as OP pointed out.
3. not sitting on my butt watching TV shows that are a waste of time - it forces me to be more active and creative.

I watch The Office, Greys Anatomy and Brothers and Sisters online which are my favorite shows and they have mini commercials. oh well. Netflix also has instant viewing but their selection is spotty at best.

TV is one of the reasons so many people have health and weight issues in the first place.

Try doing something other than watching tv and you'll see a remarkable difference. My tv hasn't been turned on in 4 months and I've found lots of other fun things to do, had more quality time with family members, gotten more (hours) and more restful sleep, gotten back a considerable amount of energy, stopped mindlessly eating junk, dropped 29 lbs.

Try it, you'll like it!

OP here ...

agreed! there are many much more productive things than watching TV and that's what I do the rest of the time :P ... but sometimes, I like the mindless entertainment value that some of the better shows provide :) ... but the commercials are evil!

I have a DVR. I like my TV shows so I record them, fast forward through the commercials, and only allow myself to watch my shows while I riding my elliptical machine.

DVRs/TIVO rule! No more being a slave to tv schedules, watch only your favorite programs on your own time - minus the commercials. I LOVE my DVR!

I used to feel guilty about watching tv, but it's a form of entertainment and I'm okay with that. Some people like music - I like tv. I stil read every day, exercise and spend time with the family - and after they've all gone to bed - I watch a favorite show that's been recorded :)
