Sweet Craving Suggestions

I am looking for some different ideas (healthy and lowfat) to fulfill that sweet tooth. Especially that time of the month , chocolate cravings are the worse. I am wondering about Pria or Slim Fast Bars etc. I have tried some really nasty ones in the past. Any suggestions?

Luna bars are very tasty for only 170 calories, with protein, fiber and low sugar, plus vitamins, calcium, etc. Tons of flavors, from Key Lime Pie to Chocolate Covered Cherry to Iced Oatmeal Cookie. I love them all! It's real chocolate, so it satisfies the cravings. I could go for one right now...

Hershey's syrup is a less-healthful way to go. I drizzle a spoonful on apples and strawberries (50 cal in 1 T.)

Angel food cake is really good for sweet cravings. It is very sweet, and a small piece is about 100 calories with no fat.

Lite cool whip is good for sweet cravings - if you put it in the freezer it kind of tastes like ice cream. For chocolate cravings, I eat sugar free fat free chocolate pudding, sometimes with lite cool whip or even a few peanuts.

kind of gross

but I eat marshmallow fluff straight from the conatiner- super sweet and low cal (60 cal per T). I also do the Hershey's syrup thing, good for chocolate fixes.

Someone in my group gave me this suggestion, so the credit goes to her! She suggested hard candies. So I bought sugar free Lifesaver Butter Toffee candies. When I want to reach for another cookie, I pop one in. They taste really good and you can have 5 of them for 45 calories. Or, I eat sugar free jello. Only 10 calories a serving!!

Several things I use are:

Slim fast peanut butter crunch snack bars (the rest are gross, but these are good)
Droste Cocao made hot w/Spleda and skim milk (100 cal if made according to instructions)
SF pudding w/berries or light whipped cream
Yoplat light yogurt w/berries
2 triangles of the bittersweet Toblerone

When I am REALLY in the mood for something quite special: Chocolate-covered strawberries - I use 2 Tbsp of Ghirardelli bittersweet choc chips (140) and they cover 5 avg strawberries (35). These are not the jumbo ones you see in sweet shops. They are about 2 or 3 bites each. You can make less if you want but eating 5 will take care of just about any craving. Plus you can't just mindlessly cram them in your mouth - they require time and savoring! I make a little occasion out of it.

Instructions: I melt the chocolate in a double boiler (although there are microwave instructions) and stick a toothpick in the green end of the strawberry. Then, holding the toothpick, I swirl the strawberry in the chocolate and poke the end of the toothpick that I was holding onto into a piece of styrofoam so the strawberry is poking up in the air. Hardens perfectly and no mess. I usually end up 'frosting' the last one with a small spatulla.

What I eat

*Quaker Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chip granola bar -110 calories

*I like the Pria Carb Select PB bar (170 cal) and the Pria chocolate mint (110 cal) that one tastes like a Girl Scout Thin MInt. Most energy bars are inedible. I take one bite and spit them out b/c they taste so fake. Pria bar does not take as good as the Slim Fast bars (there's one that taste like Butterfinger) but it's decent and has 10G of protein.

*14 dark chocolate covered espresso beans from Starbucks -100 calories
The flavor is strong so I tend to stop at 14, 1/2 the serving, quite easily.

*1 cup frozen mixed berries ( I buy them at Costco), defrosted, with 1/2 cup NF vanilla yogurt with 1/4 cup granola. I eat this for breakfast or dessert.

I have a little piece of really good dark chocolate almost every day. It keeps my craving in check.
Another option is light hot choclate - sweet, chocolatey, comforting, and only 45 calories!

My mom actually made this for me and it is delicious. Take a bowl of fat free Cool Whip and add blueberries and cut up strawberries. If you want that chocolate fix dribble on some Low Fat chocolate syrup. This little sweet salad is delicious and healthy for you. I felt like a kid again!

Apples with peanut butter. Warning, before you know it you will have way toooooo much peanut butter on that apple, so just beware; if you have to measure.

angel food cake
fresh berries (or frozen--either will do)
Fage Total 0% FF yogurt mixed with Agave nectar
Vanilla
If you need a chocolate fix, add some Ghiradelli cocoa powder, mix and let stand for a little bit to get everything to meld together. (you may need to taste as you go to make sure you've added enough agave nectar so that it takes the sour edge off of the plain yogurt...

You can also sprinkle a SMALL splash of liquer (such as khalua, rum or sherry) onto your angel food cake. top with berries & yogurt.

Decadent!

or, take some of your favorite fat free yogurt, mix with some berries in a blender... Freeze until mostly frozen, but not rock hard, take it out and blend again-- it's like having your own yogurt ice cream. :-) If you use the kind that does not have added sugar (i.e. plain yogurt), you can add your own sweetener and control the sweetness..

I like mini M&Ms (1 tblsp = 70 cal, which is about 20 little M&Ms), Starbucks light frappucino (110-150 cal, depending on the type), and chocolate suar-free pudding (60 cal per snack).

LUNA bars for women! The flavors are great, and my boyfriend loves them, so they are not just for women.

weird but works

I got some "M&Ms" lip gloss -- somehow the strong chocolate smell is almost as good as eating chocolate. Chocolate aromatherapy.

Amazing Weight watchers pumpkin fluff!

i'm guessing at the recipe, because i ate so much of this stuff that i got sick of it and haven't made it in 3 years, but i could eat a ton of it and still lose weight. it's DELICIOUS - maybe i'll make it again!

1 package non-fat light vanilla pudding mix (maybe 2?)
1 large can pureed pumpkin
1 small tub light cool-whip
pumpkin pie spice to taste

just mix and enjoy!

pumpkin fluff cont'd

now that i think about it, i think you added a little sweetener to it (Equal, Splenda, etc) - taste without and see if it needs it

wonderful chocolate fix

blend unsweetened cocoa powder (the kind you use for baking) into light, nonfat vanilla yogurt - a little bit is tasty, add a lot and you have chocolate pudding. somehow it tastes really rich, and not TOO sweet. cocoa powder is low-cal and has fiber - so for those of you on weight watchers, it's especially good.

My WW group had this suggestion and I thought it wouldn't be any good, but I was wrong.

Cut up an apple into eighths or sixteenths and sprinkle a box of SF jello powder over it (I like cherry, black cherry and strawberry on apples) - it's really pretty good and you're not tempted to use caramel dip or peanut butter. I tend to overdo on the dip, so this is a good option for me.

Nesquik has chocolate, strawberry, vanilla, etc... flavors for milk. This may sound like something you would fix for your children but it tastes great and is healthy and low calorie. Just add a few spoonfuls to a glass of low fat milk and enjoy!

sweet tooth craving

I find that the best way to fight sweet tooth cravings is to by a fresh pineapple and eat it!. It is very sweet so it will be satisfying and you wont feel guilty about eating it afterwards.

definitely different

You may have to develop a taste for this one, but it works for me--- candied ginger, just a little. It actually suppresses my appetite (no kidding.) Here's some info I found on the web about it:

Does Ginger Burn Fat?
Ginger is being investigated as a potential weapon in the battle of the bulge. Preliminary test-tube research shows that ginger boosts thermogenesis, or calorie burning. By measuring a complicated series of reactions in the tissue of rats, researchers found that ginger made the tissues use more energy than they would have normally. The researchers think the spice affects the nerves in some way. But we are still a long way from knowing for sure if eating ginger does the same thing in the whole body of a rat, let along in people. So for now, just enjoy ginger for the zing; if it burns off a few calories, call it a bonus. — International Journal of Obesity

I love ginger chews! Trader Joe's has many varieties, some by a company called The Ginger People. They make spicy apple and peanut ginger chews as well.

I loooooove cherry flavored craisins. They're so sweet and candy-like. Even though they have added sugar, they're still fruit and I feel healthy eating them. I just make sure I brush my teeth every day :-)

i have a huge sweet-tooth and have cut way down on the refined sugar and sugar substitutes by eating fresh berries instead. honestly, it does take time to get used to the change, but blackberries are especially tart and a real treat for the taste buds.
