experience with using hypnosis for weight loss?

we just published a review of some research that studies the long term effects of using hypnosis as part of a weight loss effort. This helps to explain why we have focused on the work of Roberta Temes and her CD's. we have gotten to know her over the years, and we simply see a growing list of people who are very happy with her work.

And yes, we understand there are people who are against it for religious reasons. If that describes you, please don't read click on the following link!!

I have tried it along with several friends and it didn't work for any of us. She even recorded hypnotic tapes (using our individual goals, food cravings, etc) for us to use when we needed them--didn't work either.

I believe it has something to do with open mindedness. If someone BELIEVES it's going to work, then they already have that mind set and it's more their psyche leading them to healthier eating rather than the hypnosis. But if you go into it like I did with a little sceptism, then you set yourself up for it to fail.

So the question is: is the hypnosis stopping the habits or the mindset it works that stops the habit?

I like it

I started using Dr. Roberta's tapes this week and after several sessions, I feel more confident about being able to reach my weight loss goals. I will do all the sessions as suggested and keep a weight loss chart along with my daily food log and diary entries. The proof will be in the weight loss and I will post my results here.

doing great

After one week of Dr. Roberta's cd sessions, I am more relaxed and calm every day. I am taking more pleasure in diet and exercise and my daily work, too. I am satisfied with smaller portions of food and I have lost 2 lbs. this past week.

I tried the Lighten Up! hypnosis method in 2001 and it didn't work for me in terms of weight loss. It did help me get into therapy, which I needed anyway.

I have been doing the hypnosis sessions for 5 weeks and I have reached my first mini-goal of 5 lbs. I am more relaxed about dieting than I have ever been and don't panic before eating events or celebrations anymore. During the past month, I have been to 4 birthday lunches, a cookout and a wedding. I am expecting to lose the next 15 lbs. in increments of 5 to reach my goal weight by Christmas.

Hypnosis has totally helped me. I like that the info goes into your subconscious mind.

This stuff doesn't work for me, but I know it can help a lot of people. Very interesting to read about - just not for everyone.

I recently purchased these CDs (used on Amazon). I have been listening to one session daily and I find it to be very relaxing. It is like a guided meditation. I only have a few pounds to lose and it's too early to tell whether it's working but I find it so pleasurable to listen to. The CD set is called Enjoying Weightloss. I don't know about the weightloss part but I am certainly enjoying listening to the CDs!

I also recently bought some cds, one is Glenn Harold's Ultimate guide to natrual and permanent weight loss and the other is Tricia Brennan's Body Transformation. I love them!

Like the PP, I find them very relaxing... but I have also noticed that when I miss listening to them, the day after I find it harder staying on track with my eating. I just seem to have a bit more control over myself when i've listened to them! Also, during the day I can 'hear' sentences and words in my head during the day which help keep me strong and motivated. Believe me, I was really skeptical when I started them, but now I try to never skip a day!!

I say, give it a try... :-)

glad to hear it is working. The company that makes "enjoying weight loss" has created a special offer for PEERtrainer members and readers. You can have the full program shipped to your home for the cost of shipping, and you can try the program for a full month before you have to pay anything.

The comment you made about hypnosis being relaxing is interesting. That has been my experience using hypnosis programs for non-weight loss purposes. A very interesting side effect. Here is the link to the trial offer:

freedom from cravings

An unusual thing happened last night when I went to the grocery store. I was still wound up from the day and decided to buy some ice cream for a treat. I looked at all the ice cream (which I never do, I avoid that section entirely) and even picked some of them up to read the boxes but kept putting them back. I kept thinking "I never buy this" "this stuff is so cold it will hurt my teeth" Then I walked over to the produce section and chose some green vegetables for dinner tonight. It was so smooth and very subtle. I kept thinking, "I really love my veggies" Although I hadn't done a hypnosis session for a few days because of family activities, the suggestions were still there and helped me make good choices, easily with no struggle.

Hypnosis can work, and there are a number of techniques available for "self-hypnosis" so that you can custom-tailor the message for yourself. I was able to find a bunch of info on this in the library, and have used it in other aspects of my life, too.

I like the idea of hypnosis very much. I have tried it a couple of times the last being about two years ago. While the tapes and sessions for the Slender program helped me relax, it did nothing to curb my emotional eating. I question why the sessions are meditative rather than "suggestion embedding." I see the hypnosis shows and on TV when people are embedded with triggers that stop them or encourage them to have certain behaviors. I'm thinking that is what I, and others, need to use hypnosis successfully. Can anyone discuss why these triggers are not a part of the hypnosis sessions?.
