detoxing and BM's don't read if you don't want to!

Okay, I read in some magazine that you are supposed to have AT LEAST 2 BM's a day. I don't think I even eat enough to go to the bathroom that much. It said that if you didn't, you should use a healthy detox method. What do I need to detox from? I don't put anything in my body to have to detox from. Do you really need to go to the bathroon this much. If you do and your not, what should you do? Take a laxative? Every day? That can't be healthy, can it?

No....not a laxative! They can be harsh and harmful in the long run. I use a daily detox tea and herbal colon cleanse supplement from Arbonne. Their products are "pure, safe and beneficial" or they don't put it on the market. Helps keeps me regular and in good health.

if you get enough fiber you do end up going a lot, but getting 30 g of fiber is no easy task. I take 2 "fiber choice" chewable (not gross at all) & that adds 4g to my diet.

2? I heard once a day. That's about where I am. And you don't need to detox your body from anything - just make sure you are getting enough fiber (and liquid to help it move along). I'm attaching a link to the oprah show where she and some dr. talk about organ and bowel movements.

I was once told 3X a day! :<) That was quite an interesting link. I should print up that picture of the human fat and tape it to all the junk food in my house! YUCK YUCK YUCK. Reminds me of the Fight Club movie, when they use the human fat to make soap and "sell their own fat asses back to them." That movie was a trip!

you don't need to go twice a day! some people do, others go once, and you still are healthy if you go at least every other day. if you are concerned that you are not going often enough up your fiber intake naturally with veggies and grains. there are a lot of great tasting cereals on the market now that have between 8-15 grams of fiber in them per serving! Add a little apple or other fibrous fruit and you are sure to have a bm with in a few minutes!!

Like most things, there is a range for normal. It can be 3x/day down to 3-4 times /week. Everyone is different. And, of course, your pattern can change with the TOM and other factors. What you put into your body really affects what and how often you produce output.
Bottom line: there is no one right answer for everyone.

I just went throught a detox using the Dr. Natura colon detox. I thought the same thing you did and to my surprise I was sure glad that I did do this detox! I won't share gross details-but lets just say 70% of parasites are invisible to the naked eye. Just because you think you live a healthy lifestyle as I thought, you still breath toxins that cause out bodies to do weird things amongst other things. Visit www.drnatura.com I'm glad I did. Good luck!

Maybe we need some gross details. Can you at least explain how you know it was a good thing that you did the colon cleanse? Did it just make you go to the bathroom a lot, or do you feel and see health changes since you did it?

i know i personally only go a couple times a week. I asked my doctor about it becuase i thought it might be unhealty and he said it wasnt. Some people just don't go as often as others and it is not necessarily "unhealthy"

if a site is SELLING a product, the testimonials just can't be trusted period. Why do you think MD's don't recommend colonics?.....because they have never been shown to have any positive effects.
All of this sort of reminds of me in the old dys when they used to "bleed" people when they were sick. They thought that if they got rid of the blood that contained the "sickness" that the patient would get better. Actually, they just killed a ton of people by draining all of their blood.

to the Dr. Natura colon cleanse poster . . .some of the parasites that live in our bodies are supposed to be there, some are actually "good" ones. yes we take in toxins, through pollution, our diets, etc but human bodies are well built machines and with a healthy diet and exercise we rid ourselves of many of these toxins. it is true though that most american's lifestyles and diets don't help, but i don't think those of us who take care of ourselves need a colon cleanse . . .a little more fiber is all you really need!

i remember seeing a flyer about this!! pls, someone, tell me the "worms" thing isn't true. it seems so disgusting... and i feel like we'd of heard about this in the mainstream media, right?? oh i was so tormented by these images :(

I believe the horror is part of their marketing strategy. We are so disgusted by bugs and worms that to see images of things like this in our body will probably make us want to buy ANYTHING to get them out.

Those images make me wonder if something in that Dr. Natura is binding together the poop? And, I'm sorry, but who would even think to use a stick to "pick up" chunks of their poop AND leave them all around the toilet bowl? I certainly wouldn't want to have to clean the bowl because of that! Sounds a bit contrived to me.

Holistic methods like detox, colonics, etc.

I KNOW this stuff in moderation works. I witnessed first hand at this holistic, vegan, and raw foods "camp" (I call it) how people came in wheelchairs and left walking. Others cancer went into remission and also people with HIV were able to maintain. I am not going to supply the link precisely because I don't want this to seem like a plug.

But, the links between pesticides and hormones in our food and water and deadly diseases are proven. And, detoxing once a year or 3x max, I'd say is good for you. Typically if your program is longer than 3 days and does not involve a flora builder (to help maintain/re-build GOOD bacteria and other organisms that are symbiotic to us) than you should avoid it.

A form of bleeding is still used btw to the above poster, the 'olden days' concept was not ludicrous just a little underdeveloped at the time like most medical practices over history. Now, the evolved version is where they pump your blood OUT and it's cleansed/separated/strengthened depending on you need and then put back in.

there is NO evolved form of "bleeding" that will remove a systemic disease (ie..infection, viruses) with an underlying pathology. There may be machines that perform hemodialysis that work to remove built up toxins/electrolytes for example in the renal failure patient or to add O2 and remove CO2 in the cardiopulmonary bypass patient, but nothing that "cures" or "strengthens" the blood and then replaces it. These machines are carefully developed using concepts of filters, concentration gradients, etc.
When using a bowel cleanser, how do you know what is being removed....when you detocify? How do you know that they are harmful things? Because you feel better? A lot of things can offer psychological satisfaction or pleasure or feelings of wellbeing...but that doesn't mean that they are good for you, physiologically. A placebo can have aan amazing effect sometimes.

My question...what is the difference between a laxative and a bowel cleanser?? What differentiates their mechanism of action? A laxative is defined as a food or drug that stimulates evacuation of the bowels. Pretty vague...seems pretty inclusive of these so called "cleansers" doesn't it?

microflora

Don't worry about how often you go. If its a hard BM you need to up your fiber. If its bloody, not round, orange without eating orange dye then you need to see a doctor, if you have one of these things you may have cancer or infection. As far as colon cleansing, you need certain bacteria in your intestines called common flora, if you don't have these bacteria you may become immunocompromised and you may become vitamin B12 deficient since the common microflora have a part in these. In other words they play a part in our digestion. Have you ever heard of people eating yogurt after taking antibiotics. They are replenishing their microflora after the antibiotics kill them off. Addressing the worms or other parasites that create harm to your body your antibiotics should take care of that prescribed by your doctor and do you know what you need to do while taking them, EAT SOME YOGURT!!

Difference between the laxative and colon cleanse.... Laxative adds water to your stool to make it pass somtimes giving you a waterystool . A colon cleanse is just that, it cleans out all of the little pockets of yuck that get stuck in your colon. A colon cleanse does work and makes you feel better. It can be amazing how much toxins are bodies are not able to get rid of.
As far as detoxing... Husband did a liver/ gall bladder cleanse a few years back. Said he never felt better.

there are no toxins in your colon, toxins get abosrbed to your blood stream and are fought off in your liver, along with alcohol. The reason you felt better was because you didn't have anything in your colon, it made you feel smaller, it made a big change and you noticed it. After a few days, your intestines filled back up and felt the same, right.

FYI - bulk forming and osmotic laxatives are ones that do work by increasing the water content in the bowels. However there are also laxatives that work by stimulation of the nerves that coordinate gastric motility(motion). These stimulant laxatives work on the NERVES and do not have a mechanism attributable to osmotic effects.
Basically....this is how the gut gets moving...osmotically or though nerve stimulation of smooth muscle lining of the tract. This "colon cleanse" has to work through some sort of similar mechanism. It isn't just magic people!!
Think about how the things you put in your mouth work!!

I'm of the food in, food out camp. If you keep putting food in, but only go to the bathroom 3-4 times a week, where do you think the food is?? Traditional/widely accepted medicine thinks once a day is sufficient, natural/homeopathic medicine can be of the opinion that as little as once a day is constipated.

Let's just say, that food can stay in your intestines where it continues to rot. How disgusting is that?? My grandmother had impacted bowls, and the mess when they tried to operate was absolutely disgusting...

Unless you are eating all natural, whole foods, and not letting a single pre-packaged food through your lips, can you say you don't eat anything to detox from. However, that doesn't include the toxins and chemicals from what you put on your skin, breathe in the air, or what you wash your clothes in, or clean your house with.
