Sleep, The Great Weight Loss Helper

Yes, just sleep. My normal wake up time is between 6:30 and 7 am and that almost never varies, no matter what time I go to bed the night before. But I've noticed that when I'm in bed by 10pm most days, I have much greater weight loss for the week than when I stay up til 11, 12 or 1. Even if all I was doing was reading in bed. It's not the prone position, it's the actual sleep that makes the difference.

So in addition to trying to eat right, be sure to get in bed by 10pm and go right to sleep. Check your scales and you'll see.

i just read an article (don't remember what magazine- sorry!) that talked about how people that are looking to lose the last ten pounds can be majorly helped by sleeping 8-9 hours a night. so yay! and congratulations!

I'd love to be able to get that much sleep, I may have to be proactive in asserting myself... A case of beauty sleep comes to mind!

I noticed that when I stopped watching tv every night, I was able to settle into more of a routine with everything else in my life. That made it possible for me to be in bed between 9:30 & 10 every night. And I was able to fall asleep much more quickly than on the nights when I used to watch tv, even if I was tired.

There's nothing on now anyway, it's all reruns. So I just use my tv to watch movies that I check out of the library for free or get from redbox for $1. I only do it a couple of times a week, and I try not to start a movie after 7 or 7:30pm, so I can have at least an hour before bedtime to recover from whatever the tv/movie does to my brain waves that disrupts sleep patterns.

Sleep is big. That's why you retain so much weight after you have a baby. No sleep!

Very true. We are working on a new article right now about how to really "cleanse" your body. Physical rest is a HUGE component of this. Sleeping a lot and also working to reduce stress is so important.

to echo 3:11 (and this is 11:16 again), it is really important to not be in front of a screen (tv or computer) for at least an hour before bedtime. it'll help you fall asleep and stay asleep way better if you read instead; the light of a screen can cause major anxiety before bed.
yay sleep!

they should have like buttons here- I "like" that last comment. I find that a quick bath or shower (plus a couple valerian root pills!) is a foolproof way to lose weight.

I always lose weight when I sleep better. I lose at least 2 pounds from night unti morning, vs 1 if I don't sleep well.
