Soap opera logging bugs me

Is it just me or is there more socializing and discussing whats going on in peoples lives (other than fitness related discussions) than what they are doing to get healthy. I don't mind some socializing (quick blogs or some large happenings) but I could care less who your love interests are, who you've been dating, etc on a never ending basis. I realize that mental health is a part of fitness health, but some sites read more like a soap opera than anything fitness related. Some people have been commenting for years and haven't done anything more than go for a couple walks in that time. Sorry to vent but it would be nice to hear more about fitness. I get the feeling many people haven't broken a sweat in years. When they do discuss fitness, its mostly about books they read, psychology, articles, etc, never about a real workout they did. Not everyone is like this, but it seems to be a high percentage.

^^okay, please STOP reading my logs!! ha! :p

perhaps you might want to start a group or team that is strictly workout focused/orientated? or maybe you might want to follow fitness blogs for some inspiration?

it's okay for you to pass over my logs. please don't feel obligated to read them. I hope you are able to find logs more appropriate to your liking. sorry for any awkwardness or discomfort my logs may have caused you.

peace

we are all here to get healthier !!! and you can't only fix or address one part of the person.... you could be the supportive person that gives those little kicks in the butt. Ask outright,,,WHAT DID YOU DO TODAY, FOR A WORK-OUT ??
just remember everybodies level will be different..... So be accepting...

OK, I admit. I'm old and don't text much. Still got a flip phone. So what is ^^ in the second post? The first time my daughter sent me :> or something like that, I thought is was algebra.

As for OP, I can kinda relate to some of that. Not in a mean way, but I get inspiration from other peoples success and would like to hear more about what they did to get healthy for the day. We all get off track now and then and post some just because we don't want to give up trying and quit the site, but I would agree that a person needs to evaluate whether they are making an honest effort or just socializing if they haven't had some success in the past year.

As always, I love open debate, admit to being frequently wrong, and welcome other opinions. So feel free to widen my horizons with your view.

NO-- it is the people that join groups and teams... Never fill out a profile, never log or comment... at least those that go off track now and then-- at least they are here....

Dang, I get really bored with the people who log only what they eat (and no amounts, because they're logging all THAT into some other site) and how much they work out. I don't come here to read logs of anonymous automata!

If you want to be on a site devoted only to logging calories, nutrients, and workouts, those DO exist. Personally, I like being here and knowing the people in my group are real folks balancing family and work and sometimes illnesses (and sometimes holiday partying and foodie vacations!) with weight loss and fitness. When they write, I know them as people. And I feel comfortable swapping strategies and recipes with them. And yes -- as one PP mentioned -- sometimes asking whether they got their workout in.

ok if you dont want soap opera logs.. don't read mine. lol. i write about whatever I am thinking or feeling.. it could be emotional or it could be a pep talk.. i too like knowing my pt family and that's what we are in most of my groups and teams.. we get to know each others lives from surgeries, family problems.. past experiences that made us who we are we support each other in life. through the good and bad,.. i like it all.. i get to know the person not just a name on a screen.

I thought PT was here for support rather than just statistics..
Maybe to some a short walk is an achievement.. health, commitments...
Not everyone can measure exactly what they are putting in their mouths, and probably is my result of being on this site.

In a perfect world:
I would have the time and the opportunity to go out alone and train for an hour or even two every day
I would have set personal meal nutritionally balanced with the right amount of calories
This would help me lose weight and be the size I want much quicker than it is taking me

BUT

life is full of challenges.. So I rely on my wonderful human group members, to help me get me through the next day trying to focus on avoiding pitfalls, and share my sporting triumphs, as I want to enjoy their successes, and be there in their time of weaknesses.

Anyway that was my pov, and if you managed to read to the end of my post:
Congratulations on the fitness you are achieving!

I thought I could say anything in my log about anything! It didn't even occur to me that I would be bothering anyone.

my take on that to the above poster.. say what you want.. noone has to read anything they don't want to.. i write about all sorts of things in my log.. its a journal of sorts to me.. i like to write but its hard to with my wrists.. typing is easier so its my way of letting things go.. i find it cathartic.. so don't stop because of what others think. its the web they can always close the X.
