Birth control and loss of sex drive

Has anyone experienced a decrease in sex drive due to your birth control? If so, what were you on and have you changed pills?

I thought that once I lost some weight I would feel better about myself and would want to have sex more, but it has not helped. I want to be more attracted to my husband, but the drive just isn't there on most days.

I am not on birth control and have zero sex drive. Weight gain or loss is not the cause, its the relationshiop in my case.

That most definitely happened to me. Sex almost started feeling like a chore unless it was one of those days where the planets aligned, the moon was full and all the signs were positive. I actually got so drastic as to go with the IUD and my sex drive came roaring back within 2 months. I am a very happy and satisfied girl :-)

Has anyone switched to a different pill and had side affects such as nausea, loss of energy and just feeling punk? The nurse told me to hang in there rather than going back on what I was taking. I feel bloated all the time and depressed. I hope it gets better soon. Any advice would be helpful.

I take Seasonale and have a normal sex drive and a period 4 times a year (yeah, that's the best part!). I was on a different pill before that, but didn't like it for various reasons. When I hit my peak weight, my sex drive was pretty much nill. However, 30 pounds lighter my sex drive is back and higher, which is nice. I definitely suggest Seasonale--I've been on it since it's been FDA approved and love it.

7:39 poster- I did have those symptoms and the doctors told me to hang in there... After 3 months I had had enough and forced them to switch my pill to a low estrogen dose- worked great! My headachs, nausea and tiredness went away immediatly. If you're already on low estrogen you can try a progenseritine (sp?) only pill (aka POP pill).

As for sex drive- I never noticed a decrease in intrest, but I do notice a huge increase the week before I get my period.

I switched to Yasmin - expensive (no generic available), but so worth it. It's a different type of pill, since it only has progestin and no estrogen. Not sure about sex drive, but I found that I lubricate well and have less migraines since switching.

Thank you so much. I am experiencing all that...headaches, nausea, tiredness.
I will give it a little longer and then talk to my doctor about what you suggested.

i'm on loestrin24 and i've been on it for two months after not being on any contraceptive for over two years. I've noticed a significant decrease in sex drive. i'm in the same realtionship i was in before i started taking an oral contraceptive and nothing has changed in my relationship that would be the cause of lowered sex drive. I am convinced that my sex drive has been lowered by my birth control. I'm 27 an never liked taking any type of pill or other form of contraceptive to regulate my body and this is proof that contraceptives that regualte my hormaones is not good for my body. I am normally ready at any time to have sex and now my poor boyfreind barelly gets it from me.

I had a BIG problem with my birth control limiting my sex drive. I never wanted to do it. I was on Yasmin for 4 years and every time I mentioned it to my gyno, she told me it wasn't my birth control affecting my sex drive, it was my relationship that I needed to work on. What a load of BS! I went to a new gyno at my college health center and she said birth control has everything to do with it! Apparently the Yasmin I was on has a lot of "drying" effect and the type of people who should be using it are those with oily type skin and hair and those who have lubrication to lose. I am a dry type so she said the Yasmin was just drying me up further. She switched me to a generic brand named Portia and I am so much happier. I actually want sex, enjoy it now, and am able to self lubricate without products. Birth control is just like finding clothes that fit....you have to find your own style!

My husband recently had a vasectomy and I'm going off my birth control pills soon. I'm so happy about that! I hope it helps lift my sex drive a little.

Hey 10:45!

They're coming out with a generic for Yasmin, which by the way, is what I take and it's amazing. It has lowered my sex drive but not enough to make it a problem. It's low-dose which is probably why, but I love it. I first got on it to cure week long periods from hell and it's not only helped with my period, it's cured my mood swings, acne, and I have no problems with spotting or anything. I can almost tell what HOUR i'll start. It's just really convenient and never a pain. I mean, everyone's different so you may not have as much success but it's worth a try if you haven't tried it yet!

Yaz

I am on Yaz and i feel the same way. I hate to be touch and feel like sex is nothing but something i have to do. My boyfriend thinks he is forceing me to have sex and it never was like that b4. Would it cause a problem if i change birth control pills?

10:42 - The only problems that I could see is there might be a time where you are not protected against pregnancy. However condoms can be quite effective. Definitely see your gyno, tell him/her you are having issues and try something else. Life is too short!

My drive went away when I went off the Pill

It's interesting to read about those whose drive went down as a result of birth control. I went through menopause while on the Pill and didn't know it because I kept getting a period. The Pill seemed to disguise many symptoms, including loss of sex drive. When I finally went off the Pill, the difference was almost immediate. No sex drive, painful intercourse (which didn't help either) and hot flashes.

Go figure.

Nice post!

You made some decent points there. I looked on the net for that issue and found most people will go coupled with your internet site. https://www.chokdeebacarrat.com
