I find that I'm hiding food from my husband

now that he knows I'm on a diet, I feel strange eating in front of him, like everything he sees he'll be analyzing how that will help the cause. It's strange, I don't have eating issues but I'm starting to just because I've told him about it! Any suggestions?

I don't know about you, but the men in my life are wired to want to "fix things", and when ever I've stated that I was dieting I would get those looks/reminders that what I was eating was not on my diet. It finally occured to me that I had to let them know what I was doing, and, while their support was great, I didn't want them to be my food monitor, and to keep any comments to themselves, unless of course it was to tell me that I look fabulous! It was a lesson for them (Listen to me, don't fix me) and a lesson for me (I have to tell them what I want, not assume that they should already know!). At that point it was a win-win situation.

My husband has made a few comments too but I just told him straight out, "You know what, I appreciate that you're trying to help but that really doesn't help me, it just makes me feel like I'm being policed. If this is going to work I have to do it myself." He totally understood that. Now he is being great. He does a lot of the cooking and he is really conscientious about not using butter or salt on my food.

I thought I was the only one that did this! I do too. My husband likes to say let's order a large pizza the very night I tell him I'm starting a diet! It's so incredibly frustrating.

My fiance was like that for awhile too, but after I got frusterated with him a few too many times, and in front of him, about not losing, he finally got the hint, started using PAM instead of oil, stopped cooking with noodles so much (he just makes them on the side, and he'll eat food over noodles and I'll eat it over spinach, or something). Now, last week, I finally lost a few pounds and felt great, and he just kept telling me how little I was, and how small I felt in his arms! It was the best encouragement ever!

You really just need to tell him what you want - that you don't want a judge, but you'd be happy for some praise if he notices some differences. Guys are very good with instructions, but very bad with mind reading, or picking up on subtle hints. (no offense, guys, but, it's true!)
