In Case of Emergency - READ this

I was down and out yesterday and so I decided that I would blow my diet and go eat something very bad, specifically a big greasy cheeseburger with fries and a chocolate shake. Does that not sound AWESOME? I was sure it would really make me happy, change my life, get me out of my blues, make me feel alive, give me energy, make life make sense, fix everything. BUT

I logged on to Peertrainer right before leaving the house and read the log about how the successful people on here lost weight and that stopped me dead in my tracks. Others before me have gained lots of weight, hit rock bottom with themselves and the way they felt about being in a body that didn't really fit who they were inside and kept them from being in love with themselves. So I rethought my lunch and went to a healthy place, got a chargrilled lime marinated chicken breast with a side of plump, steamed broccoli and a huge iced tea with lemon. I got full, felt totally satisfied, and today I'm still on track with my goals.

So I wanted to create this post so others can reference it in case of emergency. If you are feeling weak stop by and read this. No treat is going to solve your problems. Really be honest with yourself when you are trying to rationalize something.

Love the subject line! We really do need to see it as an emergency and stop ourselves before we head down that path again. Good job on making a healthy choice! :)

Food

It is TERRIFIC that you changed and noted that food is meant to sustain us -- not solve our financial problems or deal with our work, love life, or family problems. It won't fix the car, deal with the plummer, help us get a better job, or get us out of our funk!

YET, being overweight can prevent us from getting that better job because we don't look professional enough or have the energy required to meet the standards. In some cases it prevents us from socializing because we hide behind the fat and don't talk to the cute guy or girl because we already assume they are "too good" for us because we are overweight.

I understand as we all have used food to medicate ourselves -- the problem is we have bought into the advertising hype whether in TV or magazines -- ONLY hard work and making the choice every day to be the BEST we can be .... which includes what type of food we eat --- makes a difference in solving the problems and getting us out of our funk.

Advertisements are fantasy -- they were created in a studio with unnatural light and people who have been perfected for the camera with makeup.

NO one lives in an ad and we can't expect ourselves to be picture picture. Life happens -- but its how we react to the events that makes us a better person ... just as you noted.

CONGRATULATIONS -- Remember its a committment every morning, noon, and night -- to treat ourselves and others with respect and that includes food and not overeating.

Thanks to the bumper. I don't always have the time to look up old threads, and this one is definitely helpful. Thanks to the OP. I'm bookmarking this one.

People will comment with "bump" to keep a thread at the top of the messaage board. There is a great feature for those who want to be reminded of a message on the board daily. You can click on the "watch thread" button, and that message will automaticallly be at the top of the messages everytime you check them (uust be logged in). I did this with the recent water thread to as an additional reminder to myself to keep sipping.
