thoughts on flavored water vs. diet soda

So I have heard a lot of bad things about drinking diet soda: caffeine, carbonation, artificial ingredients, etc. I'm trying to start drinking less and it is helping to drink flavored waters instead. My question is are they any better/are they as good as drinking regular water? No caffeine or carbonation but still have the artificial sweeteners?

I read a study recently that said drinking 1 cup of diet pop before working out tells your muscles to take energy from the fat rather then muscle. I'm going to try it!

Personally, I think that anytime you introduce foreign chemicals into the body, it's not good for you...

Maybe try drinking water with squeeze of lemon or lime juice (from an actual lemon or lime) instead? It's better for you than putting chemicals in--after all, we don't really know what effect those chemicals will have on our bodies in the long run!

i agree with the above poster-and would add that diet soda is notoriously bad for your body. water with a little juice (cranberry, oj, grapefruit, grape, whatever) is the way to go.

Try selzers. These are flavoured waters that do not use artificial sweeteners, such as Poland Spring (which have lime, raspberry and lime, lemon + lime flavours). They have a light flavour.

Since artificial sweeteners are relatively new, there is not enough knowledge about how they affect us, but there have been studies linking some to cancer. I feel it's not worth the risk. Once in a while, ok, but not every day.
