Canoeing and rafting

I'm going on a trip on Friday and we're rafting, canoeing. Any ideas how many calories I burn for each? Are these really considered exercise? On a river by the way, not the ocean. Thanks.

The exercise database in my software shows 20 minutes of whitewater rafting at 100 calories, 20 minutes of average 4mph canoeing at about 150 calories. Yes, by the end of your trip, you will be calling these activities exercise. Sounds like fun, have a good time!

It depends on how much work you are doing, of course. If you are one of 8 people paddling a whitewater raft, it's less exercise than if you are rowing it by yourself. And how heavy is the raft?

I went on a week-long canoe trip years ago to the Boundary Waters. I was completely out of shape, and, yes, it was exercise. Two in a canoe, rowing for miles and keeping up with the other three canoes in our group. Portaging canoes, packs of clothes, food and tents, fishing equipment, oars, life jackets, etc over rocks and dirt paths. Hope you're not going with any kids, they're whiners (personal experience, 4 in our group were high school students). But it was a great time, I'm hoping to go again sometime.
