If you like the country - try Stonewall Resort in Roanoke, WV. Arnold Palmer designed golf course and the lake right is beautiful! (approx. 5 hours from DC)

Ahhhh. Kiawah Island for sure. As for the golf course... the Ryder Cup has played here. As for the service, President Clinton recovered from heart surgery here. Here's a link:

Hilton Head is awesome! We used to go there for spring break every year (with my family, from grade school - not a "wild" spring break!) The golf is excellent, with tons of famous courses and not-so-famous courses. The beaches are GORGEOUS! The sand is replenished every 7 years, so the beach is always sandy white and huge! And there are GREAT seafood restaurants!!

As a frequenter, I have to recommend The Crazy Crab - has the most amazing shellfish pot dinner, and also great crab legs. Also, the Westin has a FABULOUS seafood and prime rib buffet restaurant - the best dinners I've ever had!

Also, I don't know if they still do this, but there's a restaurant called Shuckers, and every Wednesday night, they used to have crab races - you'd "buy" a hermit crab, and they'd race them, and if yours wins, you get, like, a T-shirt and a bottle of wine, or something like that. Crazy fun! They also have great seafood!

Here's a cool link from Travel and Leisure magazine. It would help in deciding on the best golf resort for your needs, whether for family activities, or a buddy golfing trip, or whether you want great restaurants nearby, or for other considerations.
