Unhealthy obsessing with weight/body image. Help?

Hi everyone.. I've recently been really down on myself with the whole "body image" stuff. I'm a health freak as it is and so I obsess about it all of the time. I tend to count calories without even realizing it, lol...

Anyway, I'm afraid this obsession will become worse. I'm leaving in 4 days for college and I'll totally be in charge of what/how I eat. I typically choose 2 of my meals in a day, anyway... but having a freedom to eat if I don't want to.. that's the thing. Occasionally if I feel like I've eaten too much, I'll try to throw up. There's rare... and I'm never successful anyway.

The point is, I don't want to be like this. I just can't seem to find that motivation that sticks me to staying healthy by eating right and exercising. It's mainly the eating that gets me. I've tried PEERtrainer before, but it didn't last long.. I've tried a lot of things.. but they never kept me to it. Possibly because my intentions for doing this is all wrong.. Lets face it.. the media has hyped that we have to be skinny and have great bodies..

I would just like a person I can add to my email.. or a messenger that I can occasionally talk to so I can be reminded of my goal and habits I need to fall into. Basically, a buddy that I can share the successes and downfalls with.

I'm more than willing to provide encouragement too.. and I do know quite a bit about dieting. Like I said, I'm a bit of a health freak. I really have been obsessed with it for quite some time.

So, if any of you are interested, feel free to email me: born2kick@hotmail.com

Dear OP, it is hard for me to say this because I can tell that you are a smart and responsible person, and what I'm going to say could hurt. Would you please consider visiting a professional counselor when you get to campus? Most colleges now include 12 free professional counseling sessions in each semester's tuition payment. If you've already attempted to purge, you've already taken the first step down a path you probably don't want to tread. Eating disorders are common at college, and I feel sure that the counselor could help you find an on-campus support group to help you on your journey. Please post from time to time and let us know how you're doing.

Also - consider looking into OA - I would tend to say that the group is not just for overeaters, but wonderful for anyone who has unhealthy emotional or behavioral problems and uses food as an outlet. The relationship you are describing sounds like that between a sponsor and a sponsee.

Best wishes to you!

Hey OP -

I'm sorry to hear that you're going through all of this. I graduated from college not too long ago and faced problems very similar to yours. They started when I was a junior in high school, continued on, and then when I got to my freshman year of college I thought life was perfect... no one was keeping track of what I ate so I didn't have to eat, if I wanted to throw up I could and no one would notice in a dorm... and if they did they would think nothing of it! I could spend a large marjority of my free time working out to help myself stay "thin and healthy". But let me tell you... the repercussions of all of this are still hitting me hard! (And I don't do any of those things anymore.) If you need someone to talk to (other then a professional.. and I did end up seeing a professional) I'll be more then willing to send you an email! My email address starts off with dz so you can look for that! Best of luck!
