Birth control weight gain

"birth control does not add pounds". Yeah, right. Women all over the world are wrong....

i love how this study involved reviewing only 44 other researchers' studies and none of their own. it seems pretty unscientific to me. and to further discredit their sensationalistic headline, this follows the study breakdown:

"The researchers concluded that it is not possible to say for sure that hormonal contraceptives don’t cause weight gain."

why even bother publishing this nonsensical gibberish in the first place?

I know that when I went on logynon (after being on other brands) I gained a stone and found it impossible to lose any weight no matter how much I worked out or how healthily I ate. Once I went off that, I lost half a stone within a few months. I'm still struggling with the rest, but at least I've got some off.

I think it's safe to say that different women react differently to hormonal influences. Personally, I happen to be VERY sensitive to the pill, not only did I put on weight (a LOT of weight, which came off much more easily when I stopped taking the pill), but I got migraine headaches as well. Does everyone have those types of problems? No. However, just because it isn't a huge percentage of women taking the pill that have very significant side effects in no way negates the reality of the issue. It's just as bad as those who poo-poo PMS as a psychosomatic issue instead of acknowledging that some women have very intense symptoms while others are relatively unscathed.

The whole idea that you can make a blanket statement for how all women will react to a given medication is just ridiculous.

I completely gained weight on loestrin and triphasal and the weight melted off after I stopped the pill. I think Fox News is in partnership with the drug manufacturers. Ok, that's going a bit far but this has agenda written all over it.

And I was very concerned about gaining weight on the pill, but needed to for health reasons. I weigh 30 pounds less now than when I started the pill (obviously not because of the pill), but I also didn't gain any additional weight when I began taking it.

I did, however, have to go through 4 different kinds to find a pill that doesn't make me hormonally crazy. Now I can't imagine life without it.

I went on a high-progesterone pill when I was 22 and immediately lost 15 pounds. Everyone is different!
