Soy Milk
What brand of soy milk do YOU drink??
I've just started drinking soy milk b/c I'm slightly lactose intolerant and I was wondering which one tastes the "best." An article I read tested the milks and selected Soy Dreams so that's what I bought and it's pretty good but I wasn't sure if there were other good/better ones out there.
Also, what's vanilla soy milk? Would it be a good regular soy milk substitute or is it just a sweeter version of soy milk which has an alternative purpose?
Thanks!

I use Alpro Soy Milk, the "No Added Sugar or Salt" variety, as the other versions always seem a bit sweet to me. Vanilla milk is just what it says, as in you can also buy chocolate, banana, strawberry, etc. If your only concern is the lactose (as opposed to a vegan diet for example), you can also find reduced lactose "real" milk, which, as per government regulation, must have at least 25% less lactose than normal milk.

Vanilla soy milk is just soy milk with a vanilla flavor - it does taste sweeter, though if you buy a no added sugar version it shouldn't be too sweet. It's great for smoothies, and generally it masks the soy flavor well. Same nutritional benefits.

I drink Silk Vanilla soy milk, it is like candy, 100 cal per cup. It is great in coffee, like having a treat every morning.

8th continent-vanilla or chocolate. I prefer the taste over Silk.

I love Silk brand in all its forms - plain, vanilla, chocolate, even the soy nog they have around the holidays. I also love their yogurt.
For rice milk, I prefer Rice Dream, plain or vanilla.
Also, I LOVE Almond Breeze almond milk - a great alternative if you had a soy allergy. It's available at Trader Joe's.

Oh, as for vanilla vs. plain, I think the vanilla makes it much more drinkable. The plain is a little nutty, especially the aftertaste. Either one works on cereal though.

I like the vanilla silk - a little too much, actually. I have to be careful about keeping it in the house because I can easily down several glasses of it a day, even if I only bought it to add to chai and coffee! To me it tastes like sugar cookie dough (only not as sweet).

soy milk
I love silk lite soy milk. It has a good nutty flavor. And, yes, vanilla means it has extra sweeteners. You can get some soy milks with no additional sweeteners, but I personally will get the silk lite because of taste and health benefits

White Wave brand tastes yummy. Most soy milk that is kept in the dairy case is tastier than the boxed kind that sits on the shelf. If you like coffee, try the Silk hazelnut flavored creamer.
