Guilty Pleasures Anonymous: Potentially Off-Topic
Right. I'm accustomed to telling the men in my life, with a wry smile and a wicked gleam in my eye, that I don't feel guilty about anything that gives me pleasure. But we all know what I'm talking about, and it's time to 'fess up. What would you never admit to publicly, perhaps not even to your closest friend, for fear of embarassment? What would surprise those closest to you, be it good, bad, or very bad.
I'll get the ball rolling. I subscribe to no less than two Harry Potter podcasts. There. I've said it. Food wise; bagels with ice cream (though this was a loooong time ago. I'm a reformed character), saltines with salsa, and anything I can eat straight from the tin. (hey, I live alone) Oh, and I fantasize about being a magnanimous celebrity a la Princess Diana or Angelina Jolie.
Remember folks. This is anonymous. Let it all hang out...

I am so boring, I can't think of one. I am reading a book on the Civil War called "April 1865"-- that is my guilty pleasure right now. I could be helping take better care of my newborn and tired wife, and pay more attention to my young son. But somehow this (excellent) book keeps tugging at me.
BTW- the book is fascinating.

Janet Jackson, and Journey.
I admit most of the other geeky stuff I like.

What exactly is a Harry Potter Podcasts? I mean I am a non-techie, but what possibly connected to Harry Potter could be a guilty pleasure?
Monday, August 28, 2006, 5:58 AM
OP here. A podcast is basically a weekly or daily radio programme that can be downloaded to your Mp3 player at your leisure. As they are very cheap to produce, you can get them on about any topic possible. I guess the "guilt factor" comes from the fact that most people would never guess I listen, and it's not really intended for my demographic. They are Pottercast and Mugglecast, if you want to check them out. (recommend Pottercast for the older listener) But you forgot to mention yours!

I have a trash tv habit that includes The Girls Next Door and other stuff on the Entertainment channel.
I've been fantasizing about being an archaeologist-adventurer since 5 years before Raiders of the Lost Ark was even made. How excited am I that there's a fourth coming out??
I prefer Reese's Peanut Butter Cups to Godiva.
When I have no choice but to buy a cup of overpriced coffee somewhere, I take at least 20 packets of fake sugar to offset the rip-off price.

Walking around at home naked (with hubby naked, too. :-) ) You know you love each other when you let everything hang out (fat and all) and it doesn't bother you.
A night of gambling at the local casino (blackjack, roulette.)
Big sloppy cheeseburgers, although I rarely eat red meat...
Ice Cream (any kind at all)
Flipping through those trashy gossip rags at the supermarket (I would NEVER be caught buying one, though!)

Hot pretzels with ketchup.
Smoking a Kahlua flavored cigar (even though I don't smoke normally)

Monday, May 19, 2008, 9:06 AM
I don't know how many pleasures I have to feel guilty about but...
-I could watch "the Maury show" anytime of day. I know it's trash, but somehow it sucks me in! I've been watching trashy talk shows since I was 14. I'm now 26.
-In my spare time, I'm usually heavily involved in daydreams. I'll be picking out furniture for my new house, living in a new city, wearing something beautiful, playing with my future children. I'll also be trying on new "hats" (as in careers). Running different kinds of businesses, or working for important people.
Monday, May 19, 2008, 10:08 AM
*cheesy romance novels
*Bravo reality TV shows (I could spend a whole weekend watching/ rewatching Top Chef, or Project Runway)
*a loaded bacon cheeseburger from Five Guys, with a order of fries
*a pint of Ben and Jerry's Half Baked (and yes, I would eat the whole thing at once)
Monday, May 19, 2008, 4:56 PM
in the past: eating Ben & Jerry's by the pint, glad I don't do that anymore!
now: watching "Dancing with the Stars", only guilty since I'm not exercising enough

Those trashy romance novels - the explicit ones. I buy them by the yard at garage sales and they make great mindless reading while trying to fall asleep at night. Also, they fill the brain with such vivid images. ;^}
