Diet soda makes me hungry...

Does anyone else find that diet soda makes them hungry?

I used to buy 12 packs of "sparking water" to keep in the fridge (klaarbrun, etc) but I recently switched to diet 7up and sprite zero, mainly because they're less expensive annd they do taste better.

Now I find myself wanting to snack A LOT more- certainly more than I would expect.

Any one else notice this/have any explanations? I mean, I'm going from 1 zero calorie beverage to another zero calorie beverage, so it's not like my body is craving calories that it's not getting anymore...

I'm kinda stumped on this one!

I have noticed this too. In particular I tend to make food associations with diet soda that make me more likely to eat unhealthfully when I drink it. I have very few unhealthful cravings when I stick to water or even sparkling water - it's the sweetness factor that does me in. I had wondered if I was just particular that way, but studies of the effects of artificial sweeteners seem to indicate that's how most of us are wired. I've included a link below, but this is a lot of info on this subject out there.

It might be that the acidity of the soda is upsetting your stomach a little and that this feels like hunger pains. Happens to be all the time (with all kinds of food).

hey thanks for the link!

that kind of explains what might be going on. If I fool myselfwith fake sweets, my body just ends up craving the real sweets I tricked it out of.
