Diminishing Returns

Hey Guys!
I went WAY overboard on the unhealthy foods yesterday--had like 10 cookies, etc. Today I had a thought--why did I have 10 cookies when they all taste the same? I'm not getting anything more out of having all those extras.
For anyone that had to suffer through economics in school--it kind of reminded me of the Law of Diminishing Returns. The first cookie was good and gave me something in return, but as I had more and more of them the value they had to me became lower and lower. I know, I'm such a dork!!
Anyway, just a thought I wanted to share with all of you. Something to keep in mind when we think we might want to binge.

i think like with many addictions, the chase begins when the substance consumed does not live up to the first time this substance was used. the second cookie, the second glass of wine/beer/mixed drink/cigarette/illegal drugs, etc. i like the economic theory you used for comparison-very insightful!

I have most definitely found that to be true. For me it's the first 3 bites. After that it's lost whatever reactions it had with my tongue that make it 'special'. Knowing this I really don't have a problem eating just a tiny bit of something and saving the rest for later or having just a single piece of something. However it took me awhile to come to this conclusion. I cut out sweets for a period and when I began eating small amounts of them again this phenomina became really noticable. The first bites were amazing, but after that it was just 'food' and rather disappointing.

Thanks you made a good piont. I will try and switch to popcorn or veggies or something healthy! I know I relate to food in a way that it makes me feel better. It doesn't! I will try and replace it with something that may actually help me feel better
Like a walk or cleaning something. I will be happy when it is clean! Writing it out or calling a friend to unburden myself. I am gonna remeber diminished returns!
