i wonder why this topic is brought up? does anyone think that posting with a name will change attitudes? if someone posts a nasty comment with their name attached, would anyone try to find that person's log and comment to them personally? couldn't someone use someone else's name? couldn't someone make up a name? what is in a name that makes someone accountable for their opinions? i just don't understand how it would matter.

I don't think it would help to voluntarily put your name. I think it may help if it is logged under your login name, as happens in the teams and groups. I'm not against anonymity, and there may be good reasons for it. But one of the downsides is the one or two "bad apples" who get malicious and attack the OP (or subsequent posters).

and if we were identified with our "user name", how would it be useful? if i posted something that someone else did not like, could i expect nasty messages in the comments section of my log?

It would stop the comments like "oh I just wish you fat moms would shut up". I really do favor speaking your mind... it's just that there'd be some accountability. Dunno.

There's attacks against PT users whether the attacker is anonymous or not - unfortunately. The person being attacked needs to just ignore the attacker, after all they're just words and they're the ones that end up looking stupid at the end.

Well - I have been on both sides. I have been "attacked" by a poster when I as the OP and I have disagreed with some OPs and provided what others might see as negative or nasty. I do not take it personally if someone disagrees with me, I just move on. Everyone is entitled to their opinions and to express them in the way that they want to. You cant live your life afraid of hurting someones feelings and you cant' live your life getting upset over other peoples opinions or what they say to you.

The fact of the matter is that there is always a way to post something nicely. If you want to say you disagree....then say you disagree and move on. If you don't have any encouraging advice, then don't post. Everyone on here is looking for POSITIVE support. Put yourself in the shoe's of the poster...some topics aren't easy to be spoken about...if you were them, would you be hurt by the comment you are about to post....if yes, I would highly suggest re-formating your comment!

I second that.
Everyone here needs encouragement of some sort and that is why they are here. If you cant say something nice, please dont post, thank you

I know some PT members personally and I wouldnt want them to know its me who has asked an embarassing question. Its lovely that its anonymous.
But it would be a good idea if PT tracked the login names for their records. So they can send some warning mails to the offending people on the site!

the thing is, it's all a matter of perspective / opinion. a comment that you find offensive may be a comment i agree with. who is to decide which comments are due a "wag of the finger"?
