More water?

Anyone have any special tips for drinking more water? I can't seem to drink more than four glasses/day & even that's hard to do.

TIA

Cut out everything else

Really I don't drink much but water anymore. I normally have one diet Coke while at work in the morning then water the rest of the day. I drink flavored water because I'm not a huge fan of just water water.

One thing to keep in mine is when you say 4 glasses how big are the glasses most people's drinking glasses are supersized now a day just like everything else. More likely it's a 10 oz glass than just an 8 oz glass so your probably closer to 40 than 32.

OP here, thanks for your comment! The strange thing is that I rarely drink any other beverages (sometimes a hot drink in the morning & on wkds/tired days sometimes I'll have a can of pop). That's why I know I need to increase my liquids bc I know I'm not getting enough at all. I just don't think about it much when I'm busy, even when I'm trying to make a conscious effort.

And actually, I can't get more than 32 oz (I use a big nalgene bottle, usually), I just used 4 glasses because I thought people might relate better, since you always hear "8 glasses" are recommended.

Thanks again!

Hmm... Okay then

Do you work at a desk job? Keep the water bottle right there by you.

When you eat try to make a conscious effort of bite, sip, bit sip. That will help you eat slower and drink more both of which are good thinks. Have your big water bottle with you when you workout which will help increase water intake.

Here is my trick and if I don't do this I really don't get enough water in. I drink 32 oz right away usually in a very short amount of time. Then I fill up my bottle another time and just sip from it. I find that I can do that two times throughout the day finishing my last bottle of water by the end of the day. I can get about 80oz of water in a day like that. If I don't do that first 32 oz right away it's really tough. yes you have to go to the bathroom a lot right away, but that steadies out the rest of the day and I feel a lot better at the end of the day. Do a water challenge with someone in your group, that's what I am doing and it has helped a lot. HOpe that helps.

I also work at a desk job and I just keep a bottle with me wherever I go: in the car, on my desk, if I'm carrying a bigger bag I'll keep one in my purse... and when I'm at the office if I keep the lid off of the bottle I find that I drink more, don't know why, I guess I just take a sip when I'm bored, but it works well for me, and I also set a goal - if I get 2 bigger bottles of water (1 liter) then I just say I'm going to drink one bottle before lunch is over, one before I leave work and one before I go to bed... doing that I get in about 100 oz of water! Good luck!

I make sure I drink a 33oz bottle on my drive to work and a 33oz bottle on my drive home from work. I just keep sipping as I drive.

tips that work for me

I fill all five bottles (total of 80 oz.) the night before. Each day, I know I have to finish those before the end of the day. Seeing them all together - and then seeing the empty ones as I progress through the day - serves as a reminder to keep at it.
If I want a snack, I usually make myself finish whatever bottle I'm working on at the moment before i grab the snack.
I keep track of my progress in my daily log throughout the day, updating my log every time I've finished another bottle. And/or, if I'm already updating my log for a meal or something I've eaten, I finish my current bottle and log it before I hit "submit."

Assuming I meet my goal today, today will mark 4 straight weeks of 80-ounces-or-more of water each day!

It's also possible that you are getting enough water from other sources and you don't actually need to drink the full 64 oz of straight water (gasp!)

Big cups, glasses and bottles works best for me. I also front load my water early in the day, to give myself a boost of energy to start with. Also, I keep in mind my naturopathic doctors recommendations about water and weight loss: Actively losing- 1oz per pound you weigh daily. Maintaining- 1/2oz per pound you weigh daily. It comes off SOOOOO much faster when I'm drinking the optimal amount, it keeps me motived. Might just be all the running to the bathroom I suppose... ;)

i try to drink about half a gallon of water a day. I add DIET green tea that can be purchased at sams club and I add it to my water bottle and it gives me taste and green tea is good for your metabolism.

I admit- I'll often add a squirt of lime juice and a small squirt of agave nectar into my 1L water bottle. (for those calorie counters, there's 21 cals in a tbsp of agave nectar, and I use about a half a tsp). Then it's more fun to drink. I also usually down a litre of yerba mate (which some say is caffeine free) in addition to the 1L of water, so that I get at least 2L a day in addition to fruit juice and water rich foods.

If you eat plenty of fruits and vegetable then your water intake doesn't need to be as high. I usually drink 20 oz before the gym and 20 oz on the drive home.

I know everyone has already suggested this, but the water bottle really is the best thing to help you get your water in. Just keep it with you and drink from it constantly. Make goals like getting finished with x amount of it before a certain time. Make it a challenge for yourself!
To the above poster: I know what you mean!! I'm a full time college student and I swear I'm doing the "pee pee dance" in my seat by the time the professor lets us out!! LOL
