Body For Life

One of my group members has had a great experience with Body for Life. Anyone else have an opinion? Is it just a book or is there more to it?

Body for Life was written by Bill Phillips. It is a 12 week program that combines weight training, diet, and aerobic exercise. There is now a book written for women.
The book is well written and out lines the program well. It also has pictures of all the required exercises.
I have to say I did this several years ago and did not achieve the results I had expected.

I am intending to do Body For Life in January and would like to have a group here at PT. I have to wait til then because I have a business trip first week of the new year, and I have some tattoos in progress on my arm and shoulder that limit how much weight training I can do right now. So I would like to have a week to settle in after my trip, and hit it hard for 12 weeks thereafter, perhaps January 22 or one of the Mondays just after.

I don't think Body For Life has published their round dates for 07 yet, but I am eager to do it and would be willing to do it outside of their official progam and share it with just a few folks here rather than wait too long. If their first round dates for 07 are in February or so, I would be willing to wait til then to begin if the team wants to, but I want to plan this and be firm on a date and work with a few people who are really doing it.

I don't think we necessarily need to share the same goals, but here are my numbers nonetheless. I am a 40 year old male, and will be 41 by the time we begin. I have lost 90lbs in the last 8 months. By January, if my projections are correct, I should be in the last 20 or so of my weight loss and I want to finish strong by building muscle and getting leaner than I've ever been. Hence Body For Life. I like structure. it works for me. I've never done BFL, but I know the plan and I have been considering it for some time.

I am highly motivated. I am a whiz with spreadsheets and tracking and I like working with others. I'm 100% sure I will do the whole 12 weeks, and I would love a few people to join me.

I live in Austin, Texas.

If you are into this and dates close to late January early February sound good to you, add a comment here. I will go create a group for us once I know at least one other person is in.

Never too early to commit.

It does work, it just takes a lot of time and commitment...but IT DOES work!

I disagree

It doesn't take a lot of time. At least, it doesn't take any more than other programs.

If you do it the way the program is built, then you won't spend more than six hours in the gym a week. The eating is easy to adapt to, once you get your rhythm set. After that, it'll become second nature for you.

I have started BFL twice but never really stuck with the program. The first time I made it 10 weeks and missed only two cardio and 1 lifting workouts but was derailed by a long business trip. During that attempt I didn't stick to the diet program all that well. The second attempt did not last nearly that long.

I saw some result but nothing that ever got close to what the winners saw.
I will say that I have saved most of my workout sheets and even a photo or two so I have not written off the program and may start it in January as well.

I read both Body for Life and Body for Life for Women (or whatever it was called). Based on work and various trips coming up, it's not something I can get started on now but would be psyched to join a group of three other people just beginning BFL late January/early February, so if someone starts a group around then, I will join.

Hey 6:53

A BFL in January/February is exactly what I am proposing. I have a business trip as well in January, MacWorld in San Francisco. So I want to start as soon as I've unpacked, but would be willing to wait til the official BFL dates if they are not too much later (not posted yet). I am watching this thread, so if you want to get together let's do so.

And thanks to those who pointed out the BFL Team. I did join the other day, and I'm about to run over there and see if anyone has taken me up on this among that crew. Thanks
