Poll: Have You Lost Weight Switching to Diet Soda

And was it the switch that you credit with losing weight?

Or did you end up gaining weight?

When I was in college, my roommate was diabetic. We became good friends and I eventually stopped buying regular cola because she could not drink it. I lost about 10 lbs after switching from regular to diet. However, I don't know if that weight would have came back or not considering I became more active afterwards....so it's been 6 years and the weight (plus 10 more lbs) is still gone....so yes...I lost weight switching to diet cola (without doing anything else).

i'm confused by the above poster. first you said you became more active after switching to diet soda, then attributed your weight loss to just having switched to diet without doing anything else....?
i'm not sure how big a role switching to diet soda might play in weight loss, but cutting out all soda altogether has been great for me!

I switched to diet earlier this year- I won't say that I lost weight because I switched to diet soda, but it's definitely a factor- figure soda can account for 200-600 calories a day if you drink 1-3 regular sodas a day...

I like the fact that I can drink the diet soda without having to do any mental calculations about what I have to cut out to balance the extra calories.

I experimented with switching from fizzy water (klarbrunn) to diet soda (sprite zero) in my fridge at home and that was a disaster- for some reason, drinking diet soda in higher quantities (3-4 a day) resulted in me snacking more and feeling hungry all the time. Once I switched back to the fizzy water, my appetite returned to normal. Go figure.

I drank diet coke all my life and finally stopped drinking it all together and lost 30 pounds so far by just drinking water. My doctor wanted me to get off it completely said it's not good for you. Makes you crave sweets. I would say cut back on it and drink more water.

I only drink diet soda and started it several years ago from only drinking regular. I have lost weight and kept it off. Diet soda doesn't make me crave anything, especially not sweets. So I think everyone is different.
However, I don't attribute my weight loss to that one change.
