I have thyroid disease and the weight keeps piling on

Hi everyone,
I need your help, your motivation, your comments! I'm 5'5, 25 years old and weigh about 165 lbs. This time last year, I weighed about 140 and looked GREAT. I have a lot of muscle to me, so in reality, I looked about 120. I gained the weight because I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and my treatment has caused the weight gain. It has made my metabolism nearly shut down!! I need your help. I'm having so much trouble losing weight. I've been going to the gym religiously for almost 2 weeks now. I work out over an hour a day and have eaten extremely healthy - I've lost nothing =(

That is really difficult. What does your doctor say? Is it just a treatment phase that's going to cause this problem, or is it long term issue?

Hi! Just wanted you to know you will be in my prays. I pray our loving God puts the right medical professionals in your path. Close to 15 years ago I ended up in a coma due to a stroke and a clot in my brain. It is a long story I won't bore you with the details But I ended up in a coma for 3 months and in a wheel chair for 3 months. I had brain surgery and 3 momths hospitaliztion and 9 months of rehabilitation Today you wouldn't even know it. I raised my 4 children with the help of a loving husband. I went back to college and became a NYS Certified teacher. Nothing is in impossible with God. I understand that you also might feel a little angry but thats normal. Just do what you are doing. All will be well

OP, I'm sure you meant hypOthyroidism, right? You didn't mention it, but are you taking synthroid or levothyroxin? Is it at the right level (TSH level back to normal)? If all that is under control, then I just want you to know that you do have company. It's harder for us to lose weight, but just keep up the exercising and develop the good health. You know that muscle weighs more than fat does. Are you clothes fitting better?

Keep checking with your doctor

It is VERY common with thyroid conditions to need to adjust medication several times to find the right balance of hormone for your body. If you are doing what you need to be doing with diet and exercise, keep letting them know that you're experiencing unexplainable weight gain and want to continue to tweak your medication. In this case, taking an active role in your own health care is neccessary! Don't let them blow you off because your numbers might look good. Your body is telling you different!

hi

In my opinion, having hyperthyroid turns the body in overdrive mode. Everything becomes fast including the heart rate.
