is it me or is the title of this thread a bit offensive?

How so? I don't celebrate Christmas and didn't find it offensive, but maybe I didn't see it from your perspective. I don't get the impression it was intended as such.

That's great, but how does it tie in with this thread?

It ties into the thread about as much as the comment taking offense to the title the thread. How on earth is wishing anyone well offensive?

i guess it can be read as connecting channukah with chinese food and movies on christmas day, but i'm pretty sure that not all jewish people do these things...

How lovely to post a thread like this on Christmas morning, and to be sending all your virtual friends here warm fuzzies on Christmas morning. I think the 'Happy Movies' part of the title fits best for me. I had the day on my own, as I've only been in the US for a few months, and spent the day watching DVDs, munching, and generally just having a very relaxed time.

my friend's mother burnt their christmas dinner one year, so they all went out for chinese food and then went to the movies. of all the christmases they've shared, that is the one they seem to remember the most and with the most enthusiasm.

I'm Jewish, and I found the thread exactly right-on! I don't actually typically do movies and Chinese food on Christmas; I usually travel on Christmas (flights are cheaper and the airport is emptier), but, the reason that it's a stereotype that us Jews eat Chinese food and go to movies is that those are two establishments that are typically open on Christmas Day. Most other places are closed, unless you live in a resort town or a town that has a large non-Christian population. So, since most people have the day off from work, and Jewish people are not typically having a big family thing or going to church, etc., there isn't typically much to do besides Chinese food and movies. That's all. The thread isn't offensive.

For me, the main thing is not food, but my beloved people, the atmosphere of the holiday and activity later. We love to watch Christmas comedies together, although we already know them by heart. My son brings a projector specifically for this!

I think you feel a lack of entertainment. Maybe you should buy a home theatre and watch some interesting films? You can read about epson 2040 vs 2045 on topchartex website and choose a good device. I am sure that it will improve your mood and help you to relax
