When you eat fruit, eat it as a snack not part of a meal...

I just read this in a book, that one should eat fruit as a snack not as part of a meal. The reason is that the fruit ferments in your belly if your intestines are full (bad) vs being digested when there is more room (good). Thought this tip might help!

Fruiting

That seems to make a lot of sense. I have trouble wanting to eat late at night, thus messing up being hungry for Breakfast, etc. I wonder if a fruit snack at night is the answer for me?

I had a holistic health practitioner specializing in digestive issues say that the two best and easiest habits you can adopt for better digestion are:

1) Start your day off with a cup of hot water with a squeeze of lemon

2) Start your meals with "raw food", meaning a salad or fruit, because raw food kickstarts the production of digestive enzymes.

Regarding the "fermenting" worry...well, there are enzymes and acids in your stomach that mix with the fruit, and anything you eat last will sit on top and "ferment" longer than the stuff eaten before it. Do you think meat or dairy or cookies are better to eat last?

It takes food no more than 2.5-3 hours to move out of your stomach to your small intestine, then another 15 hours to move through your intestines to the exit (assuming a healthy tract).

Besides, don't we call fermented fruit "wine"? Heh.

One additional benefit of starting the meal with raw food is that the fibre and the fat in the food bind together and thus the fat that gets absorbed is reduced.
