diet plateau

So I've lost 5 pounds...I'm eating really well and exercising as much as time permits...but I still have more to go and the scale will not budge. I'm not sure what to do because I think its impossible for me to cut more calories without being unhealthy and I already exercise everyday and there just isnt more time. How can I put a little kick in my metabolism?

Need more info

How much weight do you want to lose total? Is it unrealistic? What does "eating really well" mean? Are you strength training or doing cardio, or doing both?

I'm eating 1200 calories a day...lean meats and veggies, fruit occasionally...no sugar, no complex carbs. I do cardio for about 30 minutes a day( running or stair climbing) and strength training for 30 minutes a day too. I need to lose about 10 pounds...

Drink more water

I'm sure you already are, but really flush your body out. Also watch your sodium intake. Try not to eat or drink anything after dinner but water and eat early; that works for me.

Have you gotten your body fat measured? Is there a chance that you don't need to lose the 10 pounds. Also, I read this on another thread. Maybe you need to take a week break from working out. A few people there lost 5 pounds that way, just from giving their body a break.

Shake it up

Do something - ANYTHING - differently, even if it seems "bad".

EAT DIFFERENTLY I've crashed a plateau by having a single meal binge...sounds crazy, but it kind of woke up my body by introducing something out of the ordinary. (Not recommended for people who know they'll spiral out of control). I also fall in the rut of eating the same foods without much variety because it's easy, you know, I've figured out all the calories and whatnot. So put berries in that smoothie instead of bananas, that sort of thing.

CHANGE YOUR WORKOUT I've also snapped out of the diet doldrums by changing my gym routine. Maybe try circuit training instead of segregating cardio from resistance, or take a yoga or boxing class, or treat yourself to a personal training session -- basically, anything your body hasn't gotten used to over the past few weeks or month.

GET A MASSAGE If you've got a few bucks to spare, get a massage. Not only does your body sound like it has earned a treat, but massage gets all kinds of stagnant toxins, fluids and waste material that build up from working out and losing fat out of your system. I had a therapist work on my stomach once and he totally reshaped it (made it less pointy). He explained that he was mobilizing some of the weight that my body had shed, which had collected around my middle on its way out. Sounded good to me (and felt terrific!).

Food

You need food! 1200 calories a day, and no complex carbs, and 30 min of cardio, and 30 min of weights. This combo means you need food. Try a huge salad with all of the veggies, a cooked whole chicken breast and 3 egg whts, and a slice of whole grain toast, this and the rest of the food you have been eating and you will feel better. Your body is protecting itself, you are not eating enough. For the next two weeks bump your calories to 2200, then bump them back down to around 1700-1800 and the scale should start moving.

Some thoughts:
(a) How long have you been on a plateau?
(b) You mention that you have been strength training. When we exercise new muscles, we will usually notice a weight gain the next day as the muscles make changes in preparation to grow. You may still be losing fat weight. Perhaps measurements would help.
(c) Perhaps vary daily calories around a daily average of 1200 to kick-start the scale.
