It is ok to start new threads

Don't be stopped by the use the search window poster. I like new conversations anyway.

GHEEZ! WHY DO I GET FLACK EVERY TIME I THOUGHTFULLY SUGGEST THAT SOMEONE WHO MAY NOT BE FAMILIAR WITH THE SEARCH WINDOW TRY TO FIND MORE INFORMATION ON THEIR TOPIC?

no matter what niceties i use when phrasing my suggestion someone seems to interpret my words as some sort of bashing. i'm not and have not tried to "stop" anyone from starting any new discussions. i have merely directed anyone reading or participating in new discussions to the previous comments that are on the same subject. what is so offensive about that?

just shut up and stop dictating how we use the community.

i don't mind new threads on old topics b/c the previous threads get long sometimes. AND i like when people use the search window b/c sometimes i don't feel like repeating the same thing i already commented on! we can all live together :)

suggest: to propose

dictate: to order

i am just as entitled to share my opinions about finding answers to posed questions as you are. why the hostility? why is there even an option to search if it's not beneficial for the community?

Instead of suggesting that someone do the searching, it may come across better if you do the work of searching and post a link to the old thread.

Additionally, and my apologies to Peertrainer, but the Peertrainer search feature does not work very well -- it easily misses threads that I know are out there. I have more success searching Peertrainer if I use Google's advanced search feature, limiting the search to the domain "peertrainer.com".

Yelling and throwing insults only suggest that you are frustrated because you do not have a solution. Instead of impulsively throwing insults, try pausing a minute to come up with a constructive idea. We can come up with constructive solutions together. This is a longstanding problem, and we would all benefit from a longstanding win-win solution.

i did post a link. that's when this thread was started. and the sole intent of this thread is to be hostile to someone who is trying to provide more information to a possibly new member. so what if many already know about the search engine? i am totally new to the computer and how to navigate sites, so someone else may like the advice. it's not such a big deal. it's one suggestion that anyone can choose to ignore or follow up with. what's with all the "shut up" comments?

PT, please remove the above comment. Getting to a new level I haven't seen here.

"you're probably fat and eating donuts right now. get over yourself.

the above is a comment from a previous post that i clearly remember feeling shocked when reading. i believe the same poster might be the hostile one on this thread. these comments are especially harmful to those who are here to find support with what for some may be a lifetime struggle. many are emotionally drained and/or vulnerable and comments that directly attack them could have terrible consequences. where is the love? all this because someone suggested using the search window to read previously posted topics?

Good god. How childish can you get? I mean, we all love a little debate on PT... sometimes even a little heated debate. But name-calling? Clearly there are a few people out there who are SERIOUSLY bored, and take some sort of pathetic pleasure in antagonizing people. Get a life!

ah, and so i was right...i'm not surprised that someone who would resort to saying such a thing to a fellow member would also try to find fault with someone else who suggested the same idea of using the search area. we have different ideas of what constitutes a rampage, but that is also not surprising. having different opinions does not take away from someone's efforts to become healthier or ease any struggles they may face. in my world, there is never an appropriate time for nasty, personally directed comments like some posted here.
