OT Pregnancy/Birth Control

This is a totally off-topic question, but I can't find answers by searching on the internet, so I thought maybe someone here would know:

I've heard that birth control pills work because they trick your body into thinking that you're pregnant, and that's why you don't release an egg. So, if you accidentally become pregnant while on the pill, will a pregnancy test still work? I'd heard that if you're on birth control, tests will always come up as positive even if you're not pregnant. Is that just an urban myth?

Birth control pills do not cause your body to think you're pregnant. They work by preventing the surge of a specific hormone that would ordinarily trigger the release of an egg.

In contrast, when you are pregnant and the embryo implants in your uterus, the developing placenta produces hCG (human chorionic gonadotrophn), and it is this substance that a pregnancy test detects in your urine. Birth control pills do not contain hCG, and thus wil not interfere with a pregnancy test.
