Inner value
Before you set off to conquer the world, set out to improve yourself. Build character and discipline on the inside, and you'll be able to handle any goal or challenge on the outside.

When you set for yourself an outer goal, be sure to also create an inner goal. Fully become, within yourself, the person who can reach that goal in the outside world, and you will.

When you feel the need to change others, seek instead to change yourself. Meet people where they are, with true understanding and acceptance, and the relationships you build will bear sweet fruit.

The person you are on the inside determines all the things you become on the outside. Nurture your inner life, and your whole world will prosper.

The solid physical reality of your life is built upon the quality of your innermost thoughts and feelings. Use every opportunity to give power and positive purpose to those thoughts, and every corner of your life will benefit.

In each moment, in every situation, seek to build lasting, genuine value on the inside. And that value will quickly spread outward from you, as far as you can see.

-- Ralph Marston

Focus now
Right now you have available to you everything you need to take one step forward. Once you take that step, you will have even more available to you to keep going.

The more persistently you move forward, step by step, the more momentum you build. And it is a process that you can begin at any time.

Focus on the one step that you can take right now. Let go of all regrets and resentment about what has already happened.

Let go of all fears and anxieties about what may be yet to come. Put your energy into where you are, and use that energy to do what you can in this moment.

Though there may be noise and confusion all around, you can transcend all those distractions. Decide to focus on the task at hand, for that is what will move you forward.

Think of how great it feels to be moving in a positive, productive direction. Focus your energy right now and make it happen.

HAPPINESS

Happiness is a butterfly, which, when pursued, is always just beyond your grasp, but which, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.

Great reminder

Absolutely LOVE this one:

Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Would you rather be right than happy?

****In other words, some people fight for the fight, but in the end, it makes them feel miserable... Sometimes, it's best not to win the fight but to know when you need to step back... :-) Besides, if you are less stressed, then you will feel better and be less likely to reach for something unhealthy to take away your bad feelings... :-)

Also, don't forget the old scientific concept of Inertia:

A body at rest tends to stay at rest. A body in motion tends to stay in motion.....

***** Let's get over our inertia and become bodies in motion! ;-)

Be where you are.

(from innumerable yoga classes)

In other words, recognize your actual situation. Don't fool yourself into thinking that you're better off than you are (ie "I didn't really eat that many fries") AND, sometimes more importantly, don't fool yourself into thinking that you're worse off than you are (ie "my diet's wrecked for the whole day" or "i'm not strong enough").

Just be where you are. Recognize it, honor it, and start from where you are. Life is much easier that way.

my hero

This morning I went for a jog in the park and saw my hero again. On the few occasions I get out, he's always there, so he must run every single day. He's an older guy, and he's got some kind of rigidity problem. He's got this very stiff gait that only allows him to kick his feet out a few inches at each step -- and he RUNS. He runs like nobody's business, I see him all over the place. He's just amazing. I always think that if he had my (relatively) flexible body, he'd be an olympic athelete with it. And if I had had his body, I would have just given up. But he has so much willpower and grit, he's clearly a great athelete. I've never even seen him taking a break, he's always running! So whenever I feel sorry for myself I think of him and try to push myself a little harder :)

To get the most from this moment, welcome it. Though it probably is not exactly as you wanted, welcome it just the same.
That will put you in the best position for moving forward. That will enable you to see the value and resources available for you to use.

Whatever has happened, has happened. Whatever the circumstances may be, they are what you now have to work with.

Welcome what is, and then you can go from there toward making it the best it can be. Welcome the moment and the circumstances it brings, and you'll be well on your way.

Don't waste your energy fighting against what is already real. Put that energy to positive use by creating something even better.

Welcome each moment, each experience, each thought as it comes. And you'll find in it all real value and strength to move forward.
