Hips?

Does anyone have any tips for getting rid of hips and/or love handles? I'm starting to tone up everywhere and I'm noticing that my hips don't seem to be going down! Now, being curvy is one thing but I can actually grab a fistful of fat and it's gross. Any ideas?

Try side bends. They're simple. Stand with feet shoulder width apart and put one hand on the back of your head and then bend to the side (side which arm is hanging) reach so that your hips don't move but so that your hand is down near your knee. then straighten up. Adding a little weight works great too. Hold a 5 or 10 lb weight and do the bends. My sides always sore the next day which means its working.

I'm sure everyone is going to tell you that you can't "spot reduce," which I guess is kind of true, but you CAN tone the muscles in those areas to speed up the process a little. Here are a few exercises that I do that have helped me:
Belly/love handles:
- torso twist (on the machine, with weight resistance)
- side crunches - lay on your side, knees, bent, chest facing the ceiling, hands behind your head
- side-to-side crunches with exercise ball - sit on floor with knees bent, lean back a little, hold a weighted ball or one of those large exercise balls in your hands - swivel from side to side as though you're going to put the ball down on the floor. before it touches the floor, swivel back to the other side

hips/thighs:
- machine that does thigh abduction/adduction (if those are the right words) - you squeeze your thighs in (with weight) on one, and you push your thighs out (with weight) on the other
- "doggy lifts" - get on your hands and knees and lift your leg out like a dog going pee
- squats (these are more for glutes, but help hips, too!) - stand with feet shoulder width apart, squat like you're about to sit in a chair and put your arms out in front of you, then go back to a standing position, while squeezing your buns together and pulling your hands in (suck in your tummy) like you're pulling something toward you.

Good luck and keep up the great work!!

and walking FAST when you are walking a lot. That is really getting my hips

oblique crunches (like Ab crunches, but more to the side) are helping love handles
