OK girls - how many do you have?

I was just putting away some laundry and for a kick I counted how many sports bras I own... 33.

Some of them I don't really wear but still.
I know I have a bit (ha!) of a compulsion issue and it seems this is just more proof!

i think i have 6. one for everyday i workout in the week.

33 is a lot. you might want to get ride of the excess bras. it might make your closest feel lighter and thus motivate you to make your body lighter too?

sorry if that was presumptuous!

1. Kinda wash it in the shower every time, then dried with my gym towels, then washed on the third day... I absolutely hate the damn thing- I only wear it when running. I'm quite proud of my rack, and having it all squished flat is not so aesthetically pleasing. However as a D cup, I'm not running without it...

Shoes on the other hand... don't even get me started.

12 sports bras and 6 regular ones - enough to keep me going 2 weeks in case I don't get around to the laundry in a timely fashion.

Never thought about this. I have 9. For some reason my gran sends a couple every Christmas. I'm grateful now, but this is the frst Christmas I've been into fitness at all. Before it was more a case of wearing them because nothing else fit over the jugs. Now I use them as god intended.

Wow. 33. I know it's been asked before elsewhere, but surely you have some tips on a good make?

5 pull-over racer-back bras
5 pull-over racer-back tanks
2 moisture-wicking underwire bras
1 moisture-wicking underwire racer-back

this seems to be the perfect amount for me. i probably have 33 pr of athletic socks though. i find "boys XL" fit my feet better than womens.

3 Enell sports bras (but with 11 hooks, I think of them as sports corsets) - I wear each one twice and do laundry on my day off from the gym.

To Ms. 33-sports-bras: I read that a guideline for # of wearings per sports bra is 100 before it needs to be replaced. So if you're looking to cull your collection, maybe this will help you figure out where to start.

OP here...

Thanks for all the responses on this topic!

I started my collection really just trying to find some that I like. I have no "rack" and HATE the flattened out chest as much as anyone.
So I keep searching for the perfect bra...

...I have the cheapie no real support ones that are ok for no impact stuff (and I use them for working out in the yard under a tshirt too)
...a bunch that are good for walking or other aerobic type stuff but not running (and they're a little bit padded so they don't flatten me out which I like)
...and lately I've been searching for good running bras. I actually like the c9 ones I got from target. since I'm not big, they give me enough support.
...then there are all the ones I wore maybe once or twice and just don't care for but I keep them because... I don't know why I keep them!

And you know I'm glad to see that not everyone washes them after every wearing! That's how I started out but realized how gross they really can get so I now have enough that I only have to wear once before washing.

Oh - and to the "shoe" person and "sock" person... I am just as bad in those areas... maybe I'll have to start another thread!

i have at least 20, and my bust has shrunk so much, that i can't keep up w/ buying new ones all the time-sometimes i have to double up if i'm running just to keep it comfortable!!!!

Hmm, I only have one that I don't even wear. I wear 2 different bras instead (not my everyday bras) But I also have small boobs so I don't really require that much support. 33 seems like a huge amount, with that you could workout everyday of the month and not do laundry, kind of gross if you think about it. I think for those who actually use and or need a sports bra 5 or 6 seems like plenty.

OP here again...

to 3:09 - Why do you think it's "gross" to have enough to wear for a month without having to wash them?
Most of them are supposed to be washed in the delicate cycle and I don't have many other things that require the same cycle so it's a waste of energy for me to run the washer with just a couple of bras in it.
Isn't it more gross to wear the same one multiple times before washing it? Especially when I usually work out for at least an hour a day... and work up quite a sweat.

I think that 3:09, not really being familiar with sports bras, and their requirements for laundering, was saying that going for a month without laundry being done at all was gross. Visions of huge mountains of dirty clothes and that sort of thing.

I only own 3 bras total, one of which is a sports bra, which is not heavy duty enough for my D cups. Don't mind spending a bit for something I know will work, but unwilling to spend to find out. I don't run much at all, but do fitness walk, ride horses, hike, and go dancing on monday nights, so good recommendations would be welcome. The 11 hook "sports corset" mentioned above sounds intriguing!

As for laundering them, no, not every time I wear them, but often. And I just wash them by hand rather than have hooks coming loose and catching on everything, including the washer tub.

Interesting topic,
mariarose

Never had ANY "sporting" or "athletic" clothes at all, so no sports bra's. What is so good about them that you can't get in a regular, well fitting, supportive bra? I am not being sarcastic, really want to know, so please, no one get offended by my curiosity. Lack of a sports bra ( or other athletic clothing ) has not stopped me from working out, I have dropped from a "D" cup to a "C".

10:46...

Try the victoria's secret line of sports bras. They run $35-$45. I have 36D-DD and can actually run in comfort in one from that line. I included a link below....the exact one the model is wearing in that pic is the one I own. I l-o-v-e it!!!

(oh...and I own 5 sports bras, but only wear 3 of them)

For starters, support in a regular bra usually comes in the form of wires, which chafe at your arms when you lift weights or use the arm thingies on the ellipticals or take any of the classes at the gym. Now I've got a killer "normal" bra - a Bali minimizer - but it is no match for jogging on the treadmill. However, I did put up with a regular bra in the beginning when I wasn't sure if my gym habit would stick, and they simply wear out way faster.

A good sports bra intended for high-impact workouts (I'm the one with the 11-hook corset-like Enell) has no wires and almost no give in it whatsover, especially not in the shoulder straps. It also somehow manages to spread the burden across my back and not just on my shoulders - what lovely relief that is! The fabric is also very thick, so it lasts a long time, and it's made from sweat-friendly materials.

I'm a D who won't run in anything but my sports bra. It hurts all that bouncing... I don't know of any supportive bra that prevents my boobs from going up- sure a supportive bra may prevent them from falling past a certain point, but when I go up, they go up, and coming down, even to that normal perky position hurts like hell... With sports bra, they don't move. No bounce, no pain. I'm not on the treadmill to impress some guy, so I don't need any bounce...

2:02, Your last sentence was really funny and so apt.

8:47 Thank you, I do get some chafing, and things don't always stay where they are the most comfortable. My issue is mostly that the back of my bras tend to really ride up, and so the front hangs down and gapes.

I agree with mariarose who wrote about not wanting to spend money just to see what works, and I am proud of myself that I have not stopped working because I don't have all the equipment I might want (in other things, not just bras) but I would not mind more comfort.

Thank you, and thank you for not taking offense
