Sleep problem...never feel rested!
Anyone else have trouble feeling rested? It makes no difference what time I go to bed, I always wake up tired. I don't understand. I do wake up a little throughout the night, but not a lot. The room is dark and not hot....there's no distractions. I just never feel rested! What's up with this?!

I used to have that issue - I got a new, very nice matress and now I am fine on 6-7 hours whereas before I would get 8-9 and never felt alert or rested. Previously we had an el-cheapo matress and the new one is a Termpurpedic which many folks would find too firm, but is just perfect for me. I had no idea how great the difference was until I tried sleeping on the old one again for a night (we had moved it to the guest room) and was literally too uncomfortable to sleep and had to move to the floor. BTW, not only am I more alert, but my entire body feels much better - I didn't realize how much everything just slightly ached until I started getting a good night's sleep.
That was just my personal experience, but I also know that sleep apnea or GERD can also cause one to not sleep well, so maybe consider a sleep clinic?

I feel your pain...I have insomnia. I lay in bed for 2-3 hours a night trying to fall asleep then wake up 4-5 times a night. I never feel fully rested, I'm tired all day, and I get sleepy at 6pm...but I can't sleep. I will be exauhsted at 7 or 8pm and try to give in and go to sleep, but then I'm wide awake until 3-4am!!! I've tried using exercise and changing my diet/eating habits, but those didn't work. I've resorted to taking tylenol PM, but I'm still wide awake hours later when those wear off. I don't know what to do!! grrr

I don't have GERD or sleep apnea...so maybe it is the mattress. I don't have trouble falling asleep...just never feel rested. I don't knwo what the deal is. Perhaps it is the mattress....I don't remember being so tired when I was sleeping on my own mattress (just got married a couple months ago and sent my bedroom suit back to my parents house)...so maybe it is the mattress. At first I thought it was sleeping with someone that was affecting my sleep...but my husband works night shift 3 days a week and I still don't rest when he's not there. So maybe it is the mattress! We can't afford a nice one right now though. I did put an egg crate thing on the one we have. That helped a little.

Are you exercising enough? I get this problem when I don't work out. The other thing is I sleep really badly if I work out too close to my bedtime. Give yourself an hour to wind down before you go to bed. You may want to try taking a bath to relax before bedtime or drink decaf hot tea. Do you watch TV in bed? I've heard something about the light being bad for you before bed. Also lately I've been going in the sauna at my gym in the evenings after my workout. It really relaxes the muscles and by the time I get home I can barely get in a shower before I crash.

My boyfriend has one and I thought I would hate it. I don't its fabulous! I hate my bed after sleeping on his. What I did cos i can' t afford a new bed either, I ordered a memory foam mattress top and its great! for a queen size bed it cost about $100 not bad really considering what those beds go for.

Sleep apnea is very common. We recently had my husband tested at a Sleep Study Center. It iwill make you feel not rested no matter what you do. Several things can cause it. You won't notice anything different really, but sometimes other people will witness you snoring , etc. Heres a link. You can do a search anywhere for Sleep Apnea and get a ton of results. Best wishes!

HI I am having major problems with fatigue myself even after 8-10hrs of sleep. I can only sleep in one position due to physical pain when I sleep on my sides and stomach area. Apparently sleeping on back prones one to possibly having sleep apnea-read this on line. I have had blood work done which was normal. I am not at all heavy, very slim, sleep on a high quality mattress, sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and I don't have a problem falling back asleep. I have constant fatigue every day for the past 2 yrs. I am older-53 yrs old and I have been in menopause for over 5 yrs now. I am on bio-identical hormones and my levels are fine and my thyroid levels are normal. I thought that only heavy people have sleep apnea but from reading articles on line that is not true. Funny thing is that many yrs ago, my hubby had to sleep in another room because his snoring disrupted my sleep. He has told me that he hears me snore at night at times although from reading literature you don't have to be snoring to have sleep apnea; however, that can be a factor. I have had this issue for at least three yrs but I attributed it to other factors. In the past yr, my fatigue has become worse and I don't have energy to work out, but I would rather sleep. I don't want to do that so I force myself to be engaged in life. It's been more than discouraging feeling tired and depressing to me. I will be making an appt. to see my Dr. for a sleep study.
