How much does a women with a 32 inch waist weigh?

I am reading about the poor health risk that having abdominal fat is. The doc who wrote about it suggested that a goal for a healthy amount of abdominal fat for a woman would be to have a 32 inch waist, and a man, a 35 inch waist.

I wondered how much a woman who is 5'1'' would weigh with a 32 inch waist. I sure don't remember what I weighed when I was there, decades ago.

Are there any of you who are 5'1" and have a 32 inch waist? Please tell me how much you weigh, so I can have a goal to go towards. I looked up on the web for the size that goes with that measurement and it said 16. Is that right? Thanks for your help.

First I have to just be blunt, your joking right? Every body is different. You could take 3 women who are 5'1 and weigh all the same and they would be totally shaped differently and wear different sizes. It just depends on your body, how your built, whether or not your small, medium or large framed, where you carry your weight.

I can tell you I am 5'2 and wear a size 14/16 and I so don't have a 32" waist. At my thinest which was in high school, I was 135 pounds and wore a size 3. Of course a size 3 back then was a lot different then a size 3 today. Damn I'm sick of this vanity sizing!!!

Why not make your goal to have a 32 inch waist? Does it really matter what your weight is if that's what you want to get to?

Don't get stuck on a number on the scale, use that as one measure to track your loses but if you goal is a certain measurement or pant size why worry about equating that in weight... just make that your goal.

I am 5'1 and have a 32 !/2 inch waist. I weigh 150 lbs. Half of that is muscle weight. I have lifted weights for years (I'm almost 50) and do not appear that heavy. I wear a size 10 pants, sometimes an 8. Weight is a poor measure of fitness, especially once you start working out. Go with measurements.

OP here. Thanks 8:07. I'm in my fifties, too, and your info was just what I was looking for. I realize that the amount of fat will make a difference in the weight at a certain measurement, but at least I have a rough idea.

I'm 5'1" and right now weigh 113 lbs. My waist is about 26". I weighed close to 130 lbs (close to an "overweight" BMI) about a year ago, and even then my waist wasn't over 30"! But, I have a pear or hourglass shape. If I were an "apple," I might be able to weigh something similar but have a much bigger waist. My hips are about 36", and my chest is 35".

I personally think, at 5'1", you should aim for around 28" - 30"; if someone says the average woman is healthy at XX weight, that doesn't mean that someone who's very short (like us) would be healthy at that same weight! But, if it's a long way off, or if you're an "apple," then a small waist might not be the best goal.

just to illustrate what 951 is talking about - i'm 5'4" and weigh 135 (healthy weight) but am an apple shape and my waist is 34". gah! i'm working every day to lower that number!

A slightly more refined version of this is to look at hip to waist ratio. The link is to a calculator to determine you ratio. Below is the url of an article explaining the results and what you should aim for.

A 32-inch waist, period, whether you're 4' 8" or 6' tall? That's all he said?

Weird.

OP here, yeah, that's what he said. He was discussing the difference between the fat that is inside your abdomen (omental fat) that hangs off your stomach and squeezes your innards. Its the beer gut on guys and can feel rock hard. It has a different kind of metabolism that is detrimental to your cholesterol and fat metabolism. I think his point was that regardless of height, if your waist measures 32 inches or lower (for women), that you would have a level of the omental fat that doesn't tend screw up your cholesterol/ fat metabolism. People with apple shapes tend to have more of this worse kind of fat. I am a pear shape, so ladies, your descriptions of your shapes along with your weights are very informative. My 5 year (ok, not very optimistic am I) will be to get to around 115, but my immediate goal is to get rid of the bad stuff asap. I can do 150 this year, but if I "had" to go all the way to 115, well, that's too fast for me. I'd have to go on a 500 cal diet... Thanks again to all who posted and good luck to you all.

I am 5'1" weigh 140 right now and have a 28 inch waist. I am an hourglass shape so most of my weight is carried on my hips and bust. I used to weigh 120 and at that time, I had a 25 inch waist. So assuming the pattern remains the same and I retain the same fat/muscle ratio and 20 lbs = 3 inches, At a 32 inch waist, I'd probably weigh about 165.

I know its different for everyone though

I'm 5'7.5", and at my absolute best I was 153 lbs, and had a 30" waist. My shape was sort of hourglass, at 38"-30"-38".

HTH.

I'm a 5'5" hourglass (how's that for objectifying myself?) and my goal is a 32.5" waist because I think it was Dr. Oz who said our waist should be half our height. With 3" and 40 pounds left to go that seems about right.

I am 5'6.5" and I weigh 175 lbs. I have a 31" waist and the BMI tells me I am near obese. I could lose up to 10 lbs and appear very physically fit, but to become the weight i am "supposed to be" I would have to become anorexic.

To the previous poster - I don't see any problem with posting further replies to questions posted way back when - it is a thread started by a specific person with a specific question a long time ago, but all the posts in the thread, including new posts, can still be very valuable as general information to anyone reading it now.

It depends on your body shape how big your waist should be in relation to your weight. I'm 5'1 with a 33 inch waist and weigh 185 pounds. I have a very flat stomach for my weight but have larger hips/chest (12 inches larger than my waist). I have a friend who weighs only 10 pounds more and is taller but has a waist 11 inches bigger than mine. It just depends on weight placement. That being said, it's very true that it matters where you gain weight, it's much better to have larger hips than a larger stomach from a health stand point.
