thats just it. You have to motivate yourself. It becomes part of your habits once you do it for long enough (at least for me it did) It is now what time do I exercise not will I exercise. I tell myself over and over "Just do it" and that seems to help a ton. Make a list of all the reasons you want to and read it before you go

Motivate Yourself to excerse

Do something you enjoy doing like dancing, put on your favorite song and dance hard for 20 minutes....or start off slow one mile a day, gradually step up the past and you'll find before you know it......your walking, dancing and loving it.

I was going to start my own thread on this topic but I luckily found this one. I am in serious need of motivation. I cannot seem to get my ass into gear. I have been on PT for 3 months and I haven't lost any weight! I need help! Any helpful tips on getting motivated and staying motivated will help out a lot. Thanks!

Motivation is something you have to find within yourself. Perhaps you feel overwhelmed. Start with one specific goal and make that one happen. For example: I will get up in the morning and walk 5 days a week. Then do it, even if it is just for 5 minutes. If fact, tell youself 5 minutes is OK, as long as you do the the 5 minutes. Then build from there. One small step at a time.

I have no TV in my house. The only way I can watch TV is by going to the gym downstairs. XD I'm not really a TV person anyway, but it's a nice break from the day.

So then I think of my workout as more like a relaxing thing. :D

go to the grocery store and get a copy of people magazine. you will find plenty of in shape and gorgeous looking women. Find someone you like cut her pic out and put it on your fridge. Every time you walk in the kitchen and you go towards the fridge you will see a pic of lets say Denise Austin and you will think to yourself i want to look like her and you will be motivated to lose weight

Find a type of exercise you like. Maybe gyms will never be the answer for you, but outdoor exercise is. Working in your yard/garden is exercise, too. Think about what you really enjoy doing that also stretches your muscles and makes you sweat, and then do it as often as possible. For me, it's a bike.

Also for me it was about forming a habit. Exercise is now part of my daily routine so I don't even think twice about it. It didn't start that way but I forced myself to work out at least 4 times a week and pretty soon I couldn't go without it!
I am not a lazy person though. If you are I think the other suggestions are great, start small and find something you look forward to. If you don't look forward to ANY exercise then you are just going to have to suck it up and do it anyway!
Best of luck to you!

Just do it!

Once you get into a routine- you will enjoy the exercise and miss it when you don't do it. Set aside time for it in your schedule even if it is 15 mins in the am and then 15 more in the eve. Walking at lunch is a good way to break up the day. So say that tomorrow you will begin!

Yes, I agree with many of the posters. Do what you like to do. Don't think "exercise"...think fun! Also maybe you need to try something new....like is there a pretty park you have never explored? or a form of dance you would like to try?

The other thing I would recommend is to look for inspiration. What are the stories that put fire in your belly? I find lots of them here at PT. There is a woman in one of my groups who recently climbed on of the highest mountains in the US. I read her logs everyday and they got me out the door with my hiking boots. Another woman here was in Iraq and she worked out everyday. Another is running a half marathon in a week. A couple others are olympic style lifters and I know some bikers who put quite a few miles on their bikes. So look for those stories! Think about what would fire you up and get you excited.
