What I Envy About People at the Gym.

There is one chick who I see maybe 3 - 4 / week, and she is in FABULOUS shape. She is a runner, and she comes in and pounds away on the treadmill (she has to be up around 7.0 plus). She RUNS for almost an hour, and is totally drenched when she finishes. She has not an ounce of fat on her, and has lean muscle that I can only hope for and she's athletic.

That is really motivating, because that is what I would love to be like. It is more than just losing weight, it is a strength and determination (oh and endurance) that I want

There's a family (Mom Dad and teenage daughter) that come to the gym at the same time I do. They all do their workouts and joke and laugh with each other in passing. I guess I don't "envy" it because I have a loving mom and dad as well, I just admire and appreciate their family togetherness and desire to stay healthy together.

I could swear we go to the same gym OP! There is someone in very similar great shape at mine - she could outrun every person in there! She goes all out for ridiculously long periods of time and is in wonderful shape. If I acheive a fraction of her level of fitness I'll be thrilled. There are several other guys and gals who are in terrific shape too, but no one comes close to her.

GREAT THREAD, it is nice to read something positive :). I am motivated by many people at the gym. Seeing people learning something for the first time. Hearing stories of people who have lost weight. Just watching people working hard is very motivating to me - I can do it !

I am pretty familiar with the gym and how to use all the equipment so I love when I see someone doing something I have not seen before so that I can incorporate them into my exercises

It's inspiration!!

I have a friend who completely inspires me. I went to her gym once just to try a class she was doing...and she came to mine once to show me stuff. She is an athlete....really lives it and I hope will do that for the rest of her life.

I am in my 50's and got completely out of shape for a couple of decades. She is nearing 30 and has always lived in her skin. She tells me what she is doing and it gets me out the door, shoes in hand, ready to breathe hard. It has made all the difference for me.

It helps to have folks out there who live it. Especially if you are coming from ground zero. I will never do what she is doing but that doesn't matter because I have figured out WHAT MATTERS TO ME and with her encouragement (and occasional boot in the pants) I am starting to live that.

ps

One more thing.....a couple of people in my PT groups are starting to do that for me too. One group member does incredible workouts and is starting to write how she got to the point where she could do what she does....totally inspiring...gives me real hope.

8:21 - Your post is inspiring! Good for you for finding inspiration and acting on it. And don't underestimate yourself or the amazing capabilities our bodies hold given proper attention and care!

There is an elderly blind man that goes to the gym with his brother. It is truely inspiring to see such love and affection between the two of them. The brother helps the man to the equipment and sets it up for the blind man. Also, on my last trip to the gym there was a blind teenage boy who was having his first session with his personal trainer. It was great to see somebody so motivated. I think that it would take alot of courage for somebody who is unable to see to go to the gym and face all the contraptions that we use to shape our bodies. It is truely inspiring and I really admire those people and the ones who help them out:)

This isn't at the gym, but still- when I run, I plod- I feel the earth move slightly out of orbit with every pounding step I take. And then I see a real runner- light and graceful, I swear their feet barely even touch the ground. They fly up hills that leave me winded, they run at speeds I can't even imagine. They run shirtless while I cover my jiggling flab with a sweat-soaked t-shirt that adds pounds to my already formidable bulk.

I envy the effortless gait, the confidence to go shirtless, the speed, I envy the dedication they have that I lack to get to that level.

I love seeing girls in the free weights section where all the beef-cake men workout. For years I was too intimidated but a few weeks ago I sucked it up and joined them :)

I am 32 and in good shape and I appreciate seeing guys in their 40s 50's 60's who are in good shape and working out hard - one older guy seems like he is in even better shape than I am. It is really great - Sometimes I wish I worked out at a lifting dungeon with huge guys, so I could get motivated to put up big weight, but it is different kind of motivation at my park district gym

- good times.

OP I am with you! At my old gym in CT there was a girl who did the same thing. Then one night I ended up meeting her at a party and realized that she was also really nice! I love watching in shape people at the gym - those who come in, get their workout on, and leave. No nonsense and look fabulous! They are my inspiration....

11:28...I hope to be one of those runners one day too!

There's a woman who's a paraplegic at our gym and I am absolutely astounded by the amount of weights she lifts! Makes me slide the pin a little lower on my own because I feel like an incredible noodle huffing and puffing over my 40 lbs.
