There are donuts in the kitchen today and I want to scream. I had an excellent breakfast this morning and I wasn't even thinking about a donut and now I am. help. please.

Think about the fat globules that will be floating in your plasma about 30 minutes after you eat it. That should be enough to make you pass!

you can't be controlled by food. you can be in control of food. it's not a life form, it's a donut. use your will and determination and ability to choose and get on with your day. this is almost ridiculous.

Ignore it. Ignore it. Don't go near it. Don't even try to catch a sweet whiff as you walk by. Don't even look. Trust me.

what if there were free cigarettes instead of donuts? would you have to talk to yourself and remind yourself that they are not good for you and your body? would you have to try to convince yourself that the efforts you've already put forth could go to waste, just for maybe a minute of pseudo satisfaction?

I worked in an office that constantly had free food for almost a year; I gained nearly 15 lbs, from just a snack here, a snack there.

Just think about all those extra pounds!

BECAUSE SHE NEEDS HELP

haha

No, I don't know why I'm shouting. Maybe she needs to be shouted at, did you think of that?

think of how sexy you are going to look and feel when you lose the weight
better and how if you eat it you will feel guilty later.

If you have access to ketchup or mustard in the kitchen, take a donut, put it on a plate and smother it in ketchup and mustard and cut it up,mix it all together. If that doesn't put you off donuts, nothing will. (Then throw the mess away.)

what gets me about free food in the office...

...is most of it is not even quality. If I want a donut I'm going to go to the fabulous bakery across town and have a donut once in a while, I am NOT going to eat some crappy chain store thing. Same with cake. I have friends who are professional pastry chefs and I will always have some of their creations (and they give you the correct portion size, which is only about 2 fingers thick) - why would I waste calories on some crisco-baked crap with fake frosting that came from the supermarket?

it sounds like a rant, but this is what lets me avoid free food - it's not worth the dang calories. I stick with my apple and wait for when the splurge is really worth it.

i'm not making excuses. i know what extra it's going to take in the gym and i'm going to do it. i give my workouts 110% 6 days a week, so i do know a few bites won't kill my 35 pounds in a few months progress. the brownie was worth it, and the cake was not, that's why i stopped after a bite.

i'm glad we all wasted our time offering advice on how to stick it out. it's a frickin donut, for crying out loud. get past dwelling on thoughts like, "but, i really, really want one." then report bcak and share your success story. you're opbviously not ready to take good care of your eating habits yet.

ONLY if I brought it

I was in a workplace where there was ALWAY something loaded with sugar and fat to eat....like donuts. I developed a policy which was ..."if I did not bring it to work , I would not eat it." Case closed. Everyone knew my policy and it saved me on MANY OCCASIONS.

Best to you OT...know the territory well. It IS hard to work in an atmosphere where there is horrible food especailly if it is a stressful work environment.

You are what you eat

Well in this case you might look like the donut after eating it.

when you go to a supermarket, there are lots of aisles with junk food, candy, soda, sugar-fueled drinks. do you wind up with this crap in your cart because you have no control? when you go to a gas station, a newspaper stand, a coffee joint, temptations are there. develop some self-control and discipline. it's not about learning a new trick, it's about learning a new way of thinking. "do i care about myself?" if the answer is "yes", then the office could be filled with donuts, ice cream, whipped cream, toffee, whatever-and with your self discipline, you can recognize that in the past you may have been tempted, but now you are in control.

Donut nazis

WTF? "Everything in moderation" a person could still eat a donut once in a while and still lose weight. Look at how many people are successful with WW.

yeah, but the point of the thread was to help dissuade the OP from having one, not to talk her into not feeling bad about having one.
