A little contest. It started when one of my groupmates suggested we compete in workout minutes or something. I had devised for myself a points system to help me focus on certain behaviors I find difficult, and so I mentioned that, and before I knew it we were competing gently against each other for points. I'm rarely motivated not to eat sweets by knowing I'm going to have to post them to my group (hate the negative aspect of that)...but knowing I get to post points for NOT eating them is great for me! Plus points for workouts and remembering to drink water.

Now my mom and sister are doing something simliar with me, and while we're not competing, it's fun to cheer each other on in scoring points. The whole thing began for me as a simple program in which I wanted to try to meet or beat each day's points the next day--no contest, no prize. But the challenge has definitely helped.

Probably the most significant rule for me right now is that for every bite of calorie-dense, nutrient-deficient food after the first three bites in a given day, we have to give up a point. A point for every BITE. It's kept me from taking a lot of fourth bites, but because it's not an all-or-nothing thing I haven't succumbed to the "well, I blew it, might as well eat another piece" mentality. Every bite I don't take is a point I don't lose, and the sooner I stop the better.

Wow 12:45 - that sounds very nearly like fun :-) I admit I am a competative person (but not in an agressive way - only in that I like to keep improving), so that sounds like great motivation!

I think really the only thing that keeps me motivated is looking forward.
When you keep looking back you can't move forward so I focus on what I will be able to do when.
My weight has always, ever since I can remember, kept me from life. I have never had or been able to do things that people take for granted and I finally decided that now is my time. I am going to have a life before my life is over. I have always waited for a man/husband and then we will travel and then I will be able to.... you fill in the blank.
Well I decided that I am no longer going to wait for a man. I can do things and enjoy life even if it is just me. So I think about what I want to do when I get enough weight off that I can move. And the places I want to see and the clothes I will be able to wear.
May sound simple but when you have never had it, it is a great motivator.
