EMAIL THREAD
Why does it seem comments are so rude lately?
I have been a part of PT since October and I just find it sad that so many people when they make a comment to a post show such venom in their words to the poster. Why is it that so many posts lately sound so hateful and cruel?
Fri. Jan 11, 2:08pm
I agree. I come on this page to get support and ideas from my fellow PTers, and it seems like every thread has some kind of negativity in it. There's not a lot we can do about it, unfortunately. If I see a thread with a lot of negative talk, I just move on.
Friday, January 11, 2008, 2:31 PM
ehh, it comes and it goes. and i know how you feel. i used to get so frustrated by that, but now, i just try to counter it with positivity. if no one responds to the rudeness, it usually fizzles out. good luck with your goals! :)
Friday, January 11, 2008, 2:33 PM
I agree with 2:33. So long as I do not do my part to perpetuate it and respond to rudenss with more rudeness, you can see that it's just a few individuals. Best way to respond is to respond to the OP with constructive comments.
I agree - it is sad when people have so much venom in their hearts. You know it's poisoning their mental outlook overall. Just keep rising above it.
Friday, January 11, 2008, 2:51 PM
Oh I think it's entertaining to read the "fights"!!
Everyone is different, comes from different backgrounds and belief systems and yet angry posters still try to argue and think everyone will see their point. While I don't comment, I usually read them and smirk to myself that some get so worked up over comments posted on a website!
Friday, January 11, 2008, 3:24 PM
I also think it is so funny that the rudest most unhappy sounding people are the same ones that demand we be tolerant of other peoples views. We of course are completely wrong and they are completely right and we have to be tolerant. And heaven forbid you say something about God. Stand back and watch the fur fly! Just laugh and have a great day.
Friday, January 11, 2008, 6:58 PM
Ya know what that is the dumbest thing I've seen posted...Oh just kidding, a little humor here! You are right we should just support each other, if enough of us do not respond to the negativity then there will be no fuel to keep it going. Thanks for addressing this topic!
Saturday, January 12, 2008, 12:11 AM
I think the nasty ones have eliminated too much sugar and caffeine from their diets and just need a place to unleash their crankiness.
Saturday, January 12, 2008, 7:58 AM
You know 7:58 am you may have come upon something, lol.
Saturday, January 12, 2008, 11:17 AM
i think they like hiding behind their keyboards and thinking of stupid ways to respond. "haha! i know what i can say..." they get a little smirk off of it and then rush back to see if there is a response.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 11:48 AM
why do people keep bringing up old threads today?
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 12:24 PM
Rude
You know it is true. I think if you enter a thread because you think it might be interesting please read on. If you don't have anything constructive to say and just want to have big "I am so great and you should all be like me" moment save it for your bathroom mirror. It is just so easy to play holier then though in an anonymous forum. I have read people calling names and belittling others. I think people who behave that way feel so badly about themselves that the only way they can feel better is to make others miserable. I also think that if you are the OP you should be able to delete the comments of jerks so every one can stay on topic.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 12:45 PM
to 12:45
while i agree with some of what you said that some people put in negative messages to get other people worked up, I also know that I have had people say I have been rude because I do not sugar coat things and stroke egos. That doesn't make me rude, it makes me a realist. sometimes tough love works. When stroking ego's doesn't work, then telling it like it is may get through to others.
I also believe people should not be attacked for being different and working through their own thoughts. Calling posters names like Moron and a**hole isn't positive--and yet those same posters are calling them names for not being positive....i don't get it...
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 12:56 PM
12:56
Your nasty fingerprints are all over peer trainer. I know you have appeared in MANY threads and I can honestly say you have some hostility issues. You have been and continue to be rude.
Do you feel empowered by being beligerant and condescending towards others when they turn to peer trainer.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 2:53 PM
The name-calling cracks me up. I'm often on the receiving end - sometimes I can't even figure out why. I just figure someone doesn't like what I said but lacks the intelligence to articulate why.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 3:42 PM
I think you are all wrong and I am right.
hee hee Just kidding I hope everyone loses a pound today :)
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 3:48 PM
2:53 this is for you
Thank you for proving my point! That's exactly what i was looking for. I give a nice polite thought about how we're all different and i agreed with you on some issues, but not all--and that's ok. Then you turn around and are hostile to me and call me beligerant. Do you realize how you sound to others? Do you realize you are accusing me of doing exactly what you just did? You just proved the OP's point and mine.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 3:51 PM
3:51
The point that I was making was that there are many things that you say on other threads that many others have considered very offensive and very rude and would be described as beligerant.
I am not calling you names, I am trying to explain that what you have said isn't just " tough love" it is very hurtful, so maybe in the future consider the content and delivery before you hit the post button - there is usually an emotionally vulnerable person on the receiving end of your tirade.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:09 PM
don't presume to know me or what i've said through pt at all. now you're blaming me for everything hateful on pt. what a shame. but if you need just one person to blame for everyone else's action, i'll take the heat because i know it's coming from someone who isn't seeing this conversation from both sides.
you've assumed i have hostility issues, you called me beligerant and condescending. how is that not calling me names? how are you not doing everything you are griping at me for others doing? you don't know me.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:13 PM
4:09
people on this site are not emotionally vulnerable! sounds like you're a know it all. why are you being beligerant towards people on pt?
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:18 PM
Unfortunatly for you, your manner in writing is what gives you away.
So no, I am not blaming you for all the nasty posts, but I can tell you have been at the other end of many arguments. You have a tendancy to provoke people into enaging, and are usually demeaning in your comments.
So as much as anononimity works for you , it doesn't.
I am not blaming you for ALL the nasty comments, only for the ones that YOU make.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:24 PM
its because you are a BITCH that is why the comments are bad and nasty
KIDDING just trying to be funny.
Seriously though, the beauty of this thing is people can be REAL and some people are really nice, some people are really jerks - all the input can be good -in the rest of life we have to sugar coat things - this is one forum where it should be KEPT REAL.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:24 PM
4:24--name one comment i've made that you're peggin on me....
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:26 PM
To 4:26
And I quote ... From the Eggs Make Me Nauseaous Thread
"this is 3:29---i'm not being insensitive--i'm seeing this in plain view. if you eat eggs and feel sick, don't f---ing eat them anymore!
it's pure logic!
quick stroking everyone's ego's and take a midol!
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:30 PM
Hmmm
To 4:26
that seems pretty beligerant to me.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:32 PM
4:13, I'm not the person you're arguing with...
But "belligerent" and "condescending" are very specific adjectives (that come across as accurate, by the way) and quite different from "idiot" and "moron", which are just nasty childish names for people you don't like.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:32 PM
I apologize for that person, but it wasn't me who said that. However, if you feel you need to blame me rather than another PT member, that's ok, you won't hurt my feelings. I know I did not make that comment.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:32 PM
To 4:32 are you also 12:46 Jan 29th?
Because if you are, sorry to say that you did write it, as much as you choose to deny it. You probably just hate being outed.
The whole "ego" comment gave you away in both threads.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:37 PM
again, it wasn't me who said that. you shouldn't make assumptions because it makes an ass out of you and umption.
I will, however, apologize for using the word "ego" in a different thread than someone else. i didn't realize using the word would bond me to someone else on PT. if you find that person, please let me know so I can send a formal apology for using their copywrited word. i thought words in the dictionary were public, kind of like PT.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:40 PM
Ego was the clinture, your sentance structure, and grammar gives you away every time, believe me I have waged enough battles with you to know.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:48 PM
you believe whatever you want. you can believe the sky is green if you'd like. if that means you're right in your mind, you go with it.
ATTN ALL PT USERS: don't ever use the word EGO in any of your posts as you may be blamed for all hateful and hurtful things on PT. This is a public service announcement
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:54 PM
Oh my god, 4:48 and assorted previous posts from the same small-minded participant, you really don't have anything more interesting in your life to do than figure out who wrote what?
P.S. It's clinCHER. And sentEnce. Funny mistakes to make for one of the few who can spell grammar correctly.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:57 PM
looks the same to me. i think ya got busted 4.54.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 4:58 PM
hahaha...this thread is great! I need an RSS feed to keep up...
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:03 PM
4:57 that's great! HA!
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:05 PM
Sorry this thread is not about spelling, please move to another thread or start your own.
he he he he
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:05 PM
be careful 5:05--she may attack you next or blame that on the other poster. ;)
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:07 PM
5:07 you're also 4:32 and 12:46
interesting
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:11 PM
Now now 5:11, you're assuming that there's more than one sarcastic apologizer on this board.
Signed,
Not the Ass-and-Umption poster...just used the word to confuse your radar.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:15 PM
Now why are you blaming me for that one? OMG!
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:17 PM
Please, blame me for the 5:15 post, too, and let's not forget to blame me for world hunger, missing children, and while you're at it, throw in an order of "you're guilty" for the OJ verdict. That surely was my fault! You just know it was.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:19 PM
Hey, The Real 5:15 here - don't steal my thunder!!! :D
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:20 PM
don't want to steel it. i figured they might as well blame that on me. lord knows global warming and holes in the ozone are next....
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:23 PM
Well That is Settled
I can go to sleep at night now that we have finally figured out who caused world hunger (wow you must have a major appetite), missing children (what exactly are you doing with them), and come on we all know that OJ was innocent who are you kidding.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:27 PM
Global warming is easily explained I was wondering where all that hot air was coming from, who thought one person could be responsible, and the ozone .... wow you must have had major 80's style hair to use so much hair spray.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:29 PM
if the glove don't fit, you must aquit.....
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:30 PM
oh yes, you can find my picture on classmates.com. i'm pretty sure i'm on the front page. all that hairspray i've been using has caused the ozone to deplete. single handedly i have caused skin cancer. next, i'm working on destruction of all tires due to pot holes.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:35 PM
Wow
You must be the antichrist ............ right here .........on pt, can I have your autograph?
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:38 PM
What happened to the anger and the nastiness on this thread?? It's gone all smart and funny! Now I'm going to have to hop over to the egg thread and get all snarky on that OP.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:41 PM
sure--here it is:
John Handcock......
there, sell that on ebay and make sure to tell the bidders I'm also responsible for all the computer problems with Windows.....that's all me too! lord knows there's no one else in the world that says rude things or causes such problems. blame it all on me! (feels like childhood all over again...)
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:42 PM
it's because 4:48 left. oh, but feel free to blame it on me for not being angry anymore.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:43 PM
Thanks for stepping up to the plate, 5:43.
Wait, that was too polite for this forum. Doh!
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:50 PM
nah 4:48 is still here
and incredibly amused.
So 5:42 have you ever been to a therapist regarding your anger problems? Sarcasm in an interesting mechanism usually used to distract from the real issue. You must be trying to make up for all the inequality in your life.
Maybe it goes as far back as childhood.....
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:52 PM
no problem. now, when you go home tonight and something goes wrong, remember to blame me.....you can call me bill brasky.
have a great evening (i apologize if that wasn't sugar coated enough or if i didn't stroke your EGO!)
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:53 PM
I think 5:42 made a wonderfully Freudian misspelling. Maybe she needs something way more fun than therapy. Giddyup!
And 4:48/5:52, I hope your funny bone heals soon because you're an overanalytical wet blanket.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 5:56 PM
so glad you guys got that out of your system...i love this forum...
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 6:20 PM
Great
So, in the time it took me to rush home and get here to continue reading this thread everybody made nice! Darn!
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 7:26 PM
HILARIOUS
This could be the FUNNIEST thread I've ever read. I think a group hug is in order
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 9:02 PM
Nice idea, but there's one or two ' round these parts who sound like they'd turn a hug into a headlock.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 9:07 PM
So disappointed...
This has got to be the most anticlimactic PT Thread War ever! I'm tempted to bring up abortion, processed food, and G-d just to get the fireworks going again! hehe
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 9:21 PM
While you're at it, don't forget dairy, infidelity and offensive usernames.
Tuesday, January 29, 2008, 9:34 PM
good morning everyone.
i am the one who's been blamed for every mean person in the history of PT and just wanted to check in and say "thank you" and "you're welcome".
thank you for the support and you're welcome for the laughs!
To quote the famous Rodney King (and I'm sure that was my fault, too): can't we all just get along! if someone gives an opinion and you don't agree with them, don't attack them and don't call them names. everyone has different opinions and that's what makes us unique. Debates are to be had, but not when you fight dirty.
I hope everyone has a healthy day!
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 9:03 AM
ohhhh Did you look over your shoulder and realize that Karma was going to bite you in the ass.
Wow I see why you don't believe in ego stroking for others , you're too busy stroking your own.
And .. it is not all the nasty comments on PT just the ones that you make, and we both know which ones they are.
Are you familiar with accountability?
And .. as a pp mentioned beligerant and condescending are adjectives which can be used to describe soemones behaviour and have nothing to do with name calling.
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 10:27 AM
Ah, Ms. Belligerent, Condescending & Superior (oh, you used those words to describe someone else? I believe that's called "projection") is back to rain on Ms. Confess-for-Everything's parade. Phew, the lack of sourness was upsetting the balance. Welcome back.
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 10:44 AM
I don't think the majority of posters mean to be rude or nasty. It is very difficult to get a tone or emotion across in writing. That is why some writers are good and some writers are GREAT! Sometimes when I feel strongly about a topic I can only address via e-mails, I re-read them for content and tone. Most of the time I end up editing so as to not come off harsh. A lot of people don't do that they just type and post.
Now for the people who just want to stir the pot. Well, there is a name for that type of poster. They are called Trolls. They are best ignored.
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 10:45 AM
i think people are just rude everywhere. yesterday i had a wrong number call to my work phone. not my fault the guy called the wrong number! yet he certainly felt comfortable verbally abusing me for it. he probably goes home and gets online at night and makes rude posts, too.
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 10:54 AM
Amazing
How you have the ability to type while shoving that twinkie down your throat? Oh that must be your form of multi-tasking.
You remind me so much of someone I dated .... it is not surprising that I DUMPED that person.
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 10:58 AM
HA HA, so funny. Thanks all for the laugh this morning. I think I may have burned a few calories from laughing:)
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 11:03 AM
Proceed to be rude to people on a thread about why do people have to be rude. Subject proven.
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 11:32 AM
Rude on the phone too!
I love it when people get a full head of steam over the phone. It is so easy to just hang up. That usually fires them up even more. I am not going to stand there holding a phone so someone can verbally assault me. My favorite is "Hold on while I transfer you to Mr. Click's office" Then hang up. I giggle my butt off!
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 12:55 PM
12:55-
what a great idea!
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 1:01 PM
emationally vulnerable
Not to belitle anyone, but I'd have to agree that there are some emotionally vulnerable people on here. I've chatted with people who cry for days or who intentally hurt themselves. Unfortunately I'm not a professional, so I usually just urge them to talk to someone. Just something to keep in mind.
I agree with a previous poster - I wish everyone loses some weight today.
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 1:03 PM
I think a lot of the rude people have already alienated everyone they can speak to face to face, are suffering from inferiority complex or have domineering spouses or partners. So they come on here to throw their weight around (no pun intended) and to make themselves feel like they are still relevant. Sad really. Just like the boy in third grade who pulled your pigtails, or the girl who kicked you and ran, they don't dislike you, they just want your attention. So, don't give it to them and they will run off and hide under their perspective bridges.
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 5:04 PM
I agree 5:04
I just get so angry with some of the cruel things that people write, for no good reason at all.
I have also noticed that the insulting comments increase around school break.
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 5:18 PM
They just think they are so witty.
Wednesday, January 30, 2008, 5:39 PM
Sugar coat and Ego
Where are you two? I love this thread. Please come back Sugar Coat! It is Monday, you must be hungover and cranky! Hey, Ego, go jump on a scale and get back to us! We miss you.
Monday, February 11, 2008, 5:49 PM
which one was I supposed to be ... I think I was sugar coat, but not too sure.
Monday, February 11, 2008, 6:03 PM
I wonder if you burn more calories when you get upset about a thread topic??
Monday, February 11, 2008, 6:39 PM
I'm back! so nice of you to think of me! i'm not hungover or cranky. just enjoying my current health victories and chatting with my teams.
guess what i'm being blamed for now? the election! pretty soon they'll tell me it's all my fault about all the hanging chads in florida.....
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 10:08 AM
As a matter of fact, I heard your name was Chad! I think the elevated heart rate and furious key stroking burns calories for sure! Good for you haveing made some strives in your health and weight issues but I am not here to stroke your Ego!
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 12:15 PM
i didn't ask you to.
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 12:23 PM
Now we're talkin!
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 12:25 PM
someone took something funny and positive i said and turned it into a personal shot....and then say i have issues....amazing
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 12:27 PM
YEAH!
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 12:32 PM
Sensitive.
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 12:50 PM

Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 1:19 PM
foxtrot, hustle, electric slide
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 1:21 PM
First of all it was not funny and positive, in fact nothing you say is funny or positive, just downright rude.
Your knickers are just twisted so far up your neck, you can't see beyond your own opinion. You are one of those people that just loves to say somthing so they can be heard irregardless of the merit of the statement, or how it effects others.
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 3:06 PM
That's the thing. Not everyone shares the same sense of humor. Not everyone is funny. However it is hard to get intention across in the typed word. That is why some writers are great and some writers suck.
There are also those who take themselves WAY too seriously and should lighten up (get it lighten up!).
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 3:19 PM
3:06--irregardless isn't a word...that's not an opinion, it's a fact.
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 3:25 PM
I remember using "irregardless" when I was a 'tween to sound more grown up. Maybe 3:06 is a child? Or just stuck there intellectually.
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 3:55 PM
3:25 A debatable "fact" - ha
I"rregardless" has made its way into everyday speech and is quite accepted, just like the lack of capitalizations in your mad ravings. Yah I know you feel it is isn't important when writing in a forum such as this one, you're just too lazy to make the effort.
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 4:13 PM
i think it's just- regardless
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 4:50 PM
lazy? you couldn't even put commas around the right letters of the word and are too lazy to double check! here's a link to prove irregardless doesn't exist. it's redundant!
Link
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 4:56 PM
And here is a link to prove that it has found a niche in the English language.
It is just small minded individuals (such as yourself) that has to sit there and smack the proverbial ruler on the hands of those that don't fit into your mold.
There is are keys on your keyboard, on the left and to the right with "shift" written on it. You might try using it when typing, it CAPATILZES, but then you're just lazy ..... and small minded.
Link
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 5:43 PM
you're redundant.
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 5:44 PM
Yo' Momma's redundant! Snap!
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 6:09 PM
i had never heard the word 'irregardless' until a professor was using it in class. we would mimic him at the bar and all of the sudden...the horror! i started using it in my own conversations. i had to break the habit. i also say - "re-donk-u-lous" from time to time to. a friend started me on that...
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 6:19 PM
YO Mammas redundant HAHAHAHAHA!
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 6:37 PM
yeah and she's redundant too!
Tuesday, February 12, 2008, 6:43 PM
I heard Carlos Mencia talking about his father saying 'irregardless'and I say it all the time. I think it is hilarious! Look, the bassis of communication is the ability to get your point across to another party and have it understood. If someone says 'irregardless' or 'redonkulous' or 'space aliem' if you understand the meaning it has been communicated properly.
get off your high horses you bunch of 'Mrs. Crabapples'
Wednesday, February 13, 2008, 11:02 AM
twist
Wednesday, February 13, 2008, 5:21 PM
I guess it comes down to how you want to be perceived...
Wednesday, February 13, 2008, 6:33 PM
I absolutely agree. I would never use those words in a business or professional environment. But, when you are just goofing around and hanging out, it doesn't hurt to have a little fun with the lingo.
George Carlin said "A person who tries to tell you what you can and can not say is not trying to better you, they are trying to control you." Not that Mr. Carlin should be considered a linguist or philosopher, it is just that the statement rings true.
Thursday, February 14, 2008, 10:01 AM
Going back to the title of this thread
I have to say that in all my time at peertrainer, I have never ever seen what I will say is the most vile, insensitive comment as I did today. It was one thing to banter, it is another to be so callous and insensitive of such an emotional issue.
It was one thing not to sugarcoat it and tell it like it is, but this goes beyond cruel and sick !!

Oh Yeah!
That was pretty bad. I don't think they were wishing cancer on anybody. I just think the delivery was bad. REALLY BAD! Don't people proof read for tone?
Thursday, February 14, 2008, 2:06 PM
They weren't wishing them cancer, they were just pointing out that high consumption of soy products can lead to breast cancer, according to scientific research. it was a warning, that there are risks to the product.
Thursday, February 14, 2008, 2:13 PM
I KNOW they were not wishing cancer onto anyone, but the way it was phrased was disgustingly tactless.
Furthermore, the person is implying that if you eat soy products, you are bringing it on yourself to get cancer. How awful is that, what about the woman who eats very healthy, exercises, takes care of herself to do the right things for her and her family, and she gets breast cancer and DIES. Did she bring it on herself????

Do you realize that you all have turned into the rude posters that you started the thread about. Jumping on everyone for everything they say. Too funny, but sadly not.

I think people are so not used to being told they might be wrong about something or that someone else might have a diferent preference or opinion they automatically get all offended.
Maybe the opposite is true. Maybe they get put down so often that the only way they can feel any self worth or have their opinion heard is to type it at the folks here.
I think we can all be supportive without the name calling and fat bashing that goes on.
