How do YOU flax?

So flax is good for you! Yum, great! But 1 to 2 tbsp. per day? Aside from yogurt, baked goods, and oatmeal, how to you get you flax?

hehe, I'm sooo glad you asked this, I've been looking for a reason to post this recipe. I have a gluten intolerance, and I found this weird, but surprisingly great recipe for a "bread" from flax.

It's basically egg and flax. So it's high protein, high fibre, and low to no carb (I used agave nectar instead of artificial sweetener)

I like to have it topped with an egg and turkey bacon in the am. Or toasted with jam. Today, I put mayo, turkey and spinach on it. Took a little getting used to, and I'm gonna try and tweak it, but this is totally a new staple to my diet...

I keep telling my husband - won't he won't know won't hurt him

My husband cringes when I mention flax seed, tofu or soy milk even though he knows they are healthy and good for him.
I put ground flax seed in his morning smoothie (which also contains soy milk - hehehe double wammy), in our weekend pancakes, in any muffin recipe I am making.

I sprinkled it on my acorn squash last night. a little- not enough to ruin the taste.
I put it on just about everything- lentil soup, ratatuille. I eat mostly veggies so I just throw it in...

Do you grind up the flax seeds or do you sprinke them on as is?

So how do you grind your flax? Somehow I acquired a bag of whole flax (I'm not sure why...it seemed like a good idea at the time). But from what I understand, it's a lot more beneficial ground up. So how can you do it?

I bought mine like that. The bottle made a big deal about being "cold-milled" so that it wouldn't go bad.

Not to be a downer, but I would probabaly just eat them whole on salads and stuff..

Does flax seed oil (capsuls) give you the same benefits as the seeds themselves?

it gives you the benefits of the alpha-linoleic acid, but not the benefits of the added fiber

ground flax is better digested than whole flax. Whole flax can often go through you just like corn, without being digested and you getting all the nutrients.

The benefit to cold pressed, is that the heat of a grinder can then cause the oil of the seed to go rancid. It actually is a pretty big deal in terms of nutrient content and taste.

To grind your own, you can use a coffee grinder, but you'll have to grin a small amount at a time, and let the grinder cool for at least 15 min in between.

GREAT WAY TO DO FLAXSEED . .

I take 2 cups of mixed frozen berries, no additives (blue, black, strawberries, raspberries)
1 can of AirForce Nutri-Soda (ww.nutrisoda.com) jammed with vitamins and ony 10 calories.
1/4 cup of ground flaxseed.

Put all in a blender. This last 2 days for me. It's delicious!

pumpkin seeds and flax seeds are not the same. Pumpkin seeds are also known as pepitas. Flax seeds are also referred to as linseeds. But pumpkin and flax seeds are two totally different things.
