Rice as visual model

I found something to be very helpful as a tool to losing 30 pounds. I bagged up 1 lb baggies of rice and put them in a office type storage box. I had another storage box that was empty. As I lost weight I would transfer the baggies from one box to the other. It was a great visual aid. Fat is both the same size and weight as rice. Even though I have lost the weight I have kept the rice never to forget that I carried that load on my body.

The only drawback is that it takes up space, but for me the visual reminder is so worth it.

Where did you get that from "Fat is both the same size and weight as rice"? I have seen what one pound of rice looks like and I've seen what one pound of fat looks like and I can't see how the 2 are exactly the same size.

Either way - one pound is one pound and just to be able to lift up a one pound bag of rice when you want to overeat could be powerful.

OP - sounds like you found a great visual tool for yourself. Congrats on 30 pounds!

I have one of those gel like models of a pound of fat that is made commercially. I compared it visually to the pound of rice. It worked for me. As I said it was a very powerful visual reality. It also offered visual reward seeing the rice get transfered from one box to the other. As they say, out of sight out of mind. I don't ever want to forget how much 30 pounds or even a couple of pounds looks like.

a pound weighs a pound no matter what it is so disregard that posters comment. You could do it with just about anything you can weight out to a pound but the rice is a good idea because it won't go bad.
Great thinking!!
