Running songs

I have a few favorite songs that I love to run to, but I'm in need of some new inspiration. Does anyone have any good suggestions?

My favorites are:
The King of Bedside Manor - Barenaked Ladies
Pump It - Black Eyed Peas
Me Against the Music - Britney Spears
Add It up - Violent Femmes

How about the following:

Sing, Sing, Sing - by Benny Goodman (performed by many different artists!)
There are many versions of this song, including some 8+ minute versions that really get your heart pumping. I used to do a lot of swing dancing, and believe me, this song is very fast and will get your heart rate up--most of the dancers I knew could not sustain the pace of dancing for the entire song...

There's also a CD by Keely Smith called "Swing, Swing, Swing" that's got lots of fast swing songs-- some are bewtween 1:40 and 4:12 minutes long.. Most of the songs on the CD are at a great pace for aerobic dancing or running....

Jump Jive and Wail is a pretty good song - Brian Setzer has a good version.

Lavay Smith and Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers - (the CD is called "Everybody's Talkin' 'Bout Miss Thing!") the song by the same name has a great up-tempo beat

There is a pretty cool Elvis song called "A Little Less Conversation"--His daughter took a song that was never released and had it mixed ia few years ago into a modern version that's pretty up-tempo and fun to listen to. Here's a link to Amazon.com where you can listen to it:

If you go into any music download programs and search cardio you can get a lot of great mixes that are about 140 beats per minute. They really pump me up. I love the Britney Spears cardio mixes.

I love the entire soundtrack for "Run Lola Run"

"Most Wonderful Girl" by Lords of Acid - makes me smile and is great for running

I second the "Sing Sing" - it's incredible!

"For Love of Money" by The OJ's - a little slower, but very strong - good for a cool-down or just getting started

"Run" (?) Pink Floyd - this one is perfect

Interestingly enough I also like "Hotel California" by the Eagles and just about anything by ACDC.

"Dare" by the Gorillaz has been absolutely rocking my work-out!

Keep the suggestions coming - great idea for a post :-)

On the Party Ben site, download "Somebody Rock Me" which is a mash-up of Killers and The Clash. (It's listed under "Somebody Kill Me") There are other fun ones on this site, too.

I would personally like to know what some people listen to when running at a speed of around 6.0 - 7.0 on the treadmill. I have my house dance music that I listen to, but I am finding it hard to get some new music that has such a good beat to it to keep me motivated and running hard. I need something that doesn't slow down halfway through, etc. Anyone have any suggestions?

I may be dating myself a bit, but nothing beats Technotronic from the 80's. They were early, early hip hop---before hip hop was hip hop and probably when the black eyed peas were still in the pod!!

You may recall "pump up the jam" or "this beat is technotronic"

the entire cd is totally hoppin' and will get your heartrate rockin'... and it brings back great memories of clubbin' it way back when!

I actually think the newest Britney Spears CD is great for working out - if you save it as a playlist and reorganize the tracks to begin mellow and end with a cool down song (I am talking about B in the Mix, her remix CD).

I also run to Audioslave when I'm jacked up or pissed off about something (especially the song What You Are - gee can you tell I am still bitter about a breakup? haha!)

Another good few hip hop songs are TI's Bring Em Out (killer beat, I got hooked on listening to this while I shadow box or box with my bag), Breathe Strech Shake by Mace, The Jump Off by Lil Kim, Breathe and Stop by QTip, Lights Camera Action by Mr. Cheeks...

Recently listened to something kind of strange for my usual taste but the artist is Goldfrapp (triphop) - her CD is going to be released in the US and is called Supernature.

Mary Chapin Carpenter?

Well, the group YES, they've got some good songs out there. Old but good.

Try some classical. Water Music, by Handel, anything by Bach. There's group (silly name) called the Opera Babes.

I run by them all. I'll post more if I think of more. I'm a classic rock/folk married to a ph.d. in classical music. Wow.

Just get Podrunner!!

You can get this free podcast weekly. It's commercial free DJ music (house. good uptempo techno ) music from a DJ (DJ Steveboy)that specifically makes beats for runners. You can use this for any workout though. Best thing about it- he tells you how fast his music is spun at- which means I get music that can keep a consistent beat. I run roughly a 9-10 minute mile which means I stick to his music that he spins between 155-165 beats per minute. Anything less is for folks who are slower, anything more is for the jackrabbits out there. AND I can see this music be used for anytype workout (except say... yoga/pilates). ENJOY. Just search for Podrunner under Itune's store. It's free, an hour long, and weekly. Ever since I found it, I've never had to scramble to create my own playlist.

A little less conversation...with false information

"A Little Less Conversation" is a song (written by songwriter Mac Davis) originally recorded by Elvis Presley for the movie Live a Little, Love a Little in 1968. It was released by RCA Victor as a single, but the release was only a moderate success, indicative of the diminishing returns of Presley's movie recordings at that time.
Soon after the release of the single, Presley re-recorded the song for the soundtrack of Elvis Presley's '68 Comeback Special, though this track was not used in the program and would circulate on bootlegs for years before being officially released by RCA in the 1990s.
One can hear Elvis sing the song in-between takes during his 1969 Memphis Recording sessions, meaning that he still remembered the song one year after recording it. It is rather unusual as Elvis recorded many songs each year. Moreover, the song had gone nowhere on the charts in late 1968 and was regarded as a second-rate song from a second-rate movie.
The original song was one of several Elvis songs featured in the film "3000 Miles to Graceland" starring Kurt Russell and Kevin Costner.
In 2001, the Comeback Special version of the song was featured by David Holmes and Steven Soderbergh in the film Ocean's Eleven, which popularized it and solidified it as a 'Vegas' theme.
The first stanza of the original version is the opening theme of the broadcast version (in some countries, including the U.S.) of the NBC television series, Las Vegas, but is not featured on the DVDs. This song was used as Howard Dean's campaign theme song for his 2004 presidential campaign. [1]
The song sprang to a yet new life during a crazed dance routine, as showcased by American Idol contestants Jon Peter Lewis and Chris Daughtry, as well as a result of its being played during Robert and Amy's (Brad Garrett and Monica Horan) first dance in the wedding episode of the popular sitcom Everybody Loves Raymond that was aired May 19, 2003.
In February 2007, it became the official theme song of the 2007 NBA All-Star Game in Las Vegas.

[edit]Elvis Presley vs. JXL Remix

“A Little Less Conversation”

Single by Elvis Presley vs. JXL
from the album Little Less conversation
Released 2002
Format CD Single
Genre Pop
Length 4:30
Writer(s) Mac Davis and Billy Strange
Producer JXL/Ad Bradley
Certification Platinum (BPI)
In 2002, it was remixed by Junkie XL for the NIKE Football World Cup advertising campaign and went on to become a Number 1 hit in over 20 countries. At about the same time, a compilation of Presley's U.S. Number 1 chart hits, entitled ELV1S 30 #1 Hits, was being prepared for release. "A Little Less Conversation" (Remix Version) was quickly added as the album's 31st track just before its release in October 2002.
The remixed song was used by Nike as the background music to a series of TV commercials directed by Terry Gilliam music produced by Ad Bradley featuring international football stars in conjunction with the 2002 FIFA World Cup. It was also used on Konami's European adaptation of their flagship dancing simulation VG Dance Dance Revolution, on the soundtrack of Dancing Stage MegaMix.
"A Little Less Conversation" has also been used in the soundtracks of several films, including the 2001 remake of Ocean's Eleven, Bruce Almighty (2003), Next (with Nicolas Cage) Shark Tale (2004) Jackass Number Two (2006) and Ocean's 13 (2007). It also appears in the trailer for the computer-animated film Bolt starring the voices of John Travolta and Miley Cyrus. It was also the theme song for the television show Las Vegas, starring James Caan.
There was a little upset caused when the record company deleted the title while it was still at number 1 in the UK. Although it was not admitted, this was to give Gareth Gates's single Anyone of Us (Stupid Mistake) a chance of getting to number one (as both songs were under the same label). The song did indeed take over as the UK number 1. In just a couple of weeks, the JXL remix of "A Little Less Conversation" had fallen totally out of the charts because it was no longer available for purchase.
The JXL remix of "A Little Less Conversation" was however re-released as part of the Elvis Presley limited edition re-release series of all his UK number one singles, three years afterwards and it got to number 3. As this was part of a limited edition, it was deleted fairly quickly once more.
The music video is notable for featuring various people dancing in little booths with the views constantly alternating between different ones.

Audioslave's self-title album. Especially 'Set It Off'. Really gets me going.

Fast Paced Songs

Just added "Show me how you burlesque" by Christina Aguilera. Not as fast as Dragula (which I love for the bpm), but I also listen to "Bloodstains" by Agent Orange, "Superman" by the Kinks, " I Wanna be Sedated" by the Ramones, "Momentum" by TobyMac, "Sick" by FlyLeaf and "Diva" by FamilyForce 5
